I purchased my white 2GB Ipod Nano from eBay for £79.99. But they are available for £124.99 from Amazon if you prefer to cut out the hassle.
Long story short, it got lost in the post and took about 3 months to arrive, via angry telephone calls to the seller, EBay and Royal Mail. But eventually, 2 months ago I finally got it!
I received it as new, boxed with headphones, soft case, instructions, Itunes on CD, link cable (for linking to Itunes) and some groovy Apple stickers.
After a tense few hours charging up I set up Itunes (reasonably hassle free and pretty simple to navigate) and
imported a few of my CD's. The on screen instructions are pretty simple, and songs don't take too long to transfer from the computer to the Ipod. Within 10 minutes I was set, and thought I'd break the Ipod in on my way to college.
The first thing I noticed was how light it was, I could barely feel it, and more than once I was in a nervous sweat wondering whether I've left it on a bus or in a lesson, but it would always turn up exactly where I left it, tucked in with my wallet and my keys, which as it turned out, was not the best idea as I hadn't used the soft case provided with the set and the screen had been pretty scratched by my keys, though its more an annoyance as it doesn't seem to have caused any serious internal damage.
The battery life is far superior to that of the Creative MuVo and the Ipod mini, my previous two MP3 players, and lived close to the 14 hours shown in the instructions, in my experience with heavy constant use it lasts around 10-12 hours, depending on what you do with it.
On this joyous first day I also noticed that you can play games whilst listening to your music, albeit simple ones which aren't too taxing but fun nonetheless! on one of these games you shoot parachutists and planes coming overhead to protect your base, another is a music quiz, which has a points timer going down as you have to guess exerts from your own playlist! A nice personal touch there I think.
The sound quality as always been very high, both with the original white headphones (which I find get dirty easily, and attract far too much attention late at night in dark alleyways) or my more reliable (and less dangerous) Sony ones, I found little difference between the two.
I picked up a jelly case from the pound shop, which was an absolute bargain, stylish too, and has kept my Ipod safe from further scratching without forking out another 10 quid for an official casing.
The wide array of options helps diversify the Ipod, and keep you interested for far longer, the Nano has a shuffle option, similar to the Ipod Shuffle, which saves you clicking through hundreds of songs, as mine at the moment holds up to 350 songs, or a full 24 hours music!
You can also sort your music by genre, artist, album, title, and playlists (these are created in Itunes)
You can also stores pictures, although this is a pretty limited function, I would expect the Nano to hold video clips and maybe even compressed movies, but Apple don't seem to want to give it all away in such a small cheap package.
The battery indicator (similar to a laptoppower bar) goes from green to yellow to orange to red, to show how much power you have left, and it hasn't dropped dead unexpectedly like the MuVo was prone to doing.
Overall i'm very impressed with my Nano, though I've heard many horror stories of people sitting on them, as long as you're careful I don't think there's much to worry about. I would thoroughly recommend buying one!
