I bought my 60GB iPod after my PSP broke and have never looked back. I use it in lessons (I'm a sixth form student), when I'm walking to school and at home every day. The amount of memory is definitely it's main feature - but note the model only has a capacity of 55.68GB and not the full 60. I've added around 200 photos, 60 short videos 2000 music tracks as well as 500 podcasts (some of which are up to 3 hours long) and still have over half of the memory left.
Getting videos on the iPod is quite fiddly, however there are some good tutorials on the Internet to guide you through it. I'd recommend looking for web tutorials as the apple instructions are quite simple. Once you've got the hang of it, it's reasonably simple to convert video from sites such as Google videos and YouTube for your viewing pleasure.Although the screen is quite small, the picture quality is excellent and a bigger screen would compromise the iPod small size and sleek design. It is just the right size to fit in your pocket or bag.
The volume goes quite loud. I often plug it into cheap mini speakers (£5 from Tescos) and listen to music whilst I'm in the shower. I also play it through my hi-fi so I have my whole CD collection at a click of a button. My main fault with this iPod is the battery life. Even though it is said to have 20 hours of life this quickly depletes if you are watching videos, playing games or simply flicking through menus.
As for the price, yes it is expensive, however the fact that it is and iPod and not another media player has lots of advantages. There are thousands of useful accessories which can be bought in almost any electrical shop as well as catalogue stores and supermarkets. One of my favourites is the FM transmitter which allows you to play your music through your car stereo.A good tip if buying this iPod is to check on the Apple website for refurbished models. I saving £100 pounds buy buying a refurbished model and it is fully tested by apple and comes with the same one-years guarantee as new ones.
Overall I think this is a great thing to buy for anyone. Those who are technically minded can definitely get more out of it than the average person.

Although your review was more experience than actual detail and background into the item, very thorough overall, good review.
