If you\'re looking for an mp3 player then this is the one to get. Watch vidoes, browse through photos, listen to music and play games! I recently upgraded my 60gb photo ipod to this 80gb video one. The sound quality remains fantastic and the extra 20gb gives me enough space to add some music videos as well as video pod casts such as Ricky Gervais or 8 out of 10 cats to name but a few.
As you may have seen, it looks fantastic - it is smart, sexy and very clean looking. With only the 2 circular buttons on the face you can stop, play, skip, fast forward and rewind your tracks. At the top there is also a hold button which allows you to disable all of the buttons so that if you accidentally press one of them, nothing happens. Very handy for jogging, or simply walking down the street. The screen on this model is slightly larger than the previous models and gives a very good picture even with quite low quality videos. This ipod comes in two main colours - black and white. There are also some novelty special edition video ipods sold in some shops, such as the red and black U2 ipod or the red black and yellow Ferrari ipod. These will set you back a little bit more than the standard, so not really worth it in my opinion.
As I said before, the sound quality is excellent - to the untrained ear anyway. I feel that one the whole the sound is a lot better than any CD, MD or mp3 player I have owned in the past. To gain a little extra sound quality, Apple have introduced some earphones which slot into the ear to eradicate any outside noise polluting the sound quality - a bit dangerous for when crossing the road, but hey they do sound great!
The ipod is very easy to use as the options are clearly set out. The interface when turned on allows you access to music, photos, videos, extras, settings and also gives you the option to shuffle songs or go back to what is currently playing. To scroll through the selections you simply glide your finger round the larger circular pad, which highlights the option you have selected. When you have highlighted your choice, you then press the centre button and a new options list will open up. This gives you the option of choosing a song by artist, album or you can also search by track name. Once the song you wish to play has been highlighted, you simply press the centre button once more and away you go - easy!! Once you are playing a song, if you scroll up and down, the volume will change. If you press the centre button once, the ipod will allow you to change the position of the song. If the centre button is pressed again (twice) the album artwork will be shown, press the centre button once more (thrice) and you can choose a star rating out of five for that particular song. This option in particular is extremely when trying to find your favourite tracks.
There is a great little way of creating a playlist, as you scroll through various songs you can hold the centre button for a few seconds and the song will automatically be transferred into a playlist. Within the playlists option, back in the music interface there are another seven options to choose from. The playlist that you have just chosen will be called On-The-Go, however the ipod is very clever and gives you the option to play 90's music, music videos, the highest rated songs, recently added songs, recently played songs, and the top 25 most played! I particularly like the top 25 most played songs. The same applies to creating a video playlist.
There is a new option, which I did not have on my 60gb photo ipod: if you cannot find a particular song there is a way you can search for it by typing in the letters. It takes a little time typing in the letters as you have to scroll down and select each letter in turn but it makes searching through thousands of tracks a little easier!
There are hundreds of options on this ipod, and I couldn't go through each one - there just isn't enough time in the day, and I'm really not going to be able to cover all aspects. The best way to find out is to buy one and play with it for a day or two, because like me you'll eventually how you ever coped without one! Believe me, you will not be let down by it. Also I feel it would be a shame for me to go though every single detail, each ipod is customisable and all of the interface options can be moved or changed to suit the owner. All in all I feel that no-one is complete without there very own ipod!
Now here comes the downside - When you receive you brand-spanking new ipod, it doesn't come with a charger! The only things in the box are the ipod itself, some headphones and a wire to connect it to the computer. The ipod can be charged from the PC but do Apple not realise we might/need to travel once in a while. Is it sensible taking your computer with you to Italy say?! I think not. This, I feel, is extremely cheeky of them! So ipods have a huge range of accessories to plug in, strap on and squeeze your ipod into. Whether it is a nano, shuffle or original, there are hundreds of gismo's and trinkets for you to play with. These, as well as the ipod itself, are costly so be aware that you may need to spend more than you first assumed.
On the whole I would advise anyone to buy an ipod, especially this model as it will be well worth your money.

The apple ipod (30GB-80GB) is a piece of hardware that should be pumping tunes into the ear drums of every person who likes a stylish, easy to use, snazzy and all round brilliant mp3 player. Apple have entered a new cooler feature of being able to download films or movie videos to you ipod so the options are limitless.

After plugging in the iPod using the USB cable to my computer and running ITunes I then of course wanted to add multimedia to it. However one point I overlooked was files needed to be in the ITunes library before adding to the IPod you couldn't simply drag and drop from another location which is slightly difficult but can be overcome fairly quickly.
Once ... ...was best was to right click on my iPod in ITunes and select the option create 'create new play list' and then dragging from the library in ITunes to the play list so when you look at say Music on your iPod it will all be neatly under different play lists opposed to up to somewhat 20,000 songs all packed in together.
Manual
I found the manual to be quite thin and it also came with a French manual which I of course had no use for. However the process ...

You can actually feel the difference in the screen, if you have experience with previous versions of the iPods. **UPDATE** After having this iPod for 18 months now, I thought I'd update my review as parts of it are no longer true. This review was updated 22.07.09 :-)
** UPDATE** I'll have owned my iPod Classic for two years when December comes, so at the end of this review I'll give you an update on how it's running almost 24 months after it was first purchased.
I was hesitant about buying an iPod as my first, an iPod mini a few years ago, broke and never mended itself as
soon as I bought it. It was sent back and I've been using other (decent) players since. But iPods are so popular
I decided to give them another shot and, truthfully, am very pleased that I did.

Advantages: Great design, Fantastic sound quality, Easy to use Disadvantages: A bit frail, battery problems, Rubbish after sales warranty
brought this item from ebay with full warranty for £200 as opposed to £299 from uk high street stores last year and have been very happy with its great sound quality and bass sound, and its great easy usability compared to rivals, although i have had some problems along the way, including, terrible battery life (4 hours continuous play) and the fact that the ipod would generally just freeze and not reset its self until it was synced with the computer, which was an absolute nuisance as i listen to it throughout the day!!! so i took it to the apple shop in oxford street and they 'fixed' it. but again it kept losing battery life and freezing. i took it back a further 3 times before they finally agreed to give me a new one. i thought maybe it was an isolated case but its happened to a few people i know too. so beware when buying one in ...

Manufacturer's product description
Now that you can buy movies from the iTunes Store and sync them to your iPod, the whole world is your theater. With a 30GB or 80GB iPod in hand, those movies fit comfortably next to TV shows, new iPod games, podcasts, audiobooks, photo albums, and, of course, an entire library of music - up to 20,000 songs, in fact. How much can your pocket hold? That's up to you and your iPod. It holds up to 20,000 songs, up to 25,000 photos, and up to 100 hours of video - or any combination of each. So you can browse movies on the iTunes Store, download the ones you want (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, perhaps?), and then sync it to your iPod. Same goes for TV episodes, new iPod games, 99¢ songs, best-selling audiobooks, and an entire universe of free podcasts. Go ahead. Fill 'er up.With all that music at your fingertips, you may never want to stop listening. Lucky thing your iPod plays audio for up to 20 hours. Or, if you'd rather watch, you can feast your eyes on movies and TV shows for up to six-and-a-half hours. It might be a miracle. Otherwise, it's hard to explain exactly how 30GB of storage can fit into an iPod that's over 30% thinner than the previous fourth generation. Or how an 80GB iPod can be the same size as the 60GB model before it. However it happened, it means you can carry your entire music collection - plus a nice selection of video - absolutely everywhere you go. And a 60% brighter, more vibrant display gives your album art, photos, and video extra oomph.Finding what you want to hear among 20,000 songs could be quite a chore - unless you have an iPod. A new interface lets you search your iPod using the patented Click Wheel. And if you're a fan of live albums, classical works, or anything that sounds best when it's continuous, iPod supports gapless playback that seamlessly transitions from one song to another.
