The iPod by Apple has always been the most well known brand of mp3 players, and since the first one was released in 2001, over 173,000,000 iPods have been sold worldwide. The iPod Nano is one of the many types of iPod to be released, the idea of the Nano is that it is less thick than a normal iPod but can still hold a reasonable amount of music on it. There have been four different versions released of the Nano so far, the latest one being released at the end of 2008 (known as the fourth generation Nano). This version was the first Nano to be released which is capable of storing 16GB worth of music (approx 4,000 songs) and / or videos (approx 16hrs). Like other iPods, it can also store photos.
The Product Design
Previously, I've had 2 other Nanos, the first generation Nano which was 4GB and the second generation Nano which was 8GB. My music collection is getting bigger and bigger however so I decided it was time for an upgrade.
The iPod comes in quite sleek, compact packaging which certainly doesn't waste any space. The packaging is basically a small clear plastic box which comes with an instruction manual so you can get to grips with the iPod pretty quickly. The iPod also comes with a set of earphones, a dockadapter and a USB cable which connects your iPod to your computer to charge and add songs to it.
The iPod Nano 16GB just looks really cool, one of the most stylish looking gadgets I have ever seen! When I bought it, it cost £145 from a high street electrical store, so you can probably expect to pay around that kind of price for yours. Prices don't generally come down for iPods until near the time the next replacement model is being released. There are many colours available for you to choose from, I chose silver purely because I couldn't make my mind up! The other colours are black, purple, pink, green, blue, red, yellow and orange. The red version can only be bought direct through Apple and the money from the sale goes towards raising money for Aids.
The screen is a little longer than on previous versions and the wheel you use for navigation is ever so slightly smaller. Although it is only a subtle difference, I found that it was a little too fiddly to use and it took me a while to get used to it as I was so used to using the bigger wheel. The sides curve out into a slight point making it look more curvy than it did before. There is a button on the top of the ipod which when you click into place prevents the navigation buttons from working, this is useful as it stops the iPod being knocked when it's in your pocket. I was a little disappointed to see that the earphones had not been updated at all, I tend to not use the earphones that come with the iPod as they tend to stop working fairly soon.
The casing is metallic, but frosted so that it doesn't scratch so easily and scratches don't show up as much if you were to get any. The iPod screen is obviously made of clear material however, so this scratches quite easily. I recommend getting some kind of case or sock for your iPod as it is quite easy for your keys to scratch the product should you have them both in the same bag or pocket. When the iPod was first released, it used to come with a free sock however it no longer comes with one, you should be able to buy these quite cheaply if you shop around however. I use one, and despite using my iPod nearly every day and having it flung about my bag all the time it has very little scratching to it.
Using The Product
Anyone familiar with using an iPod should find this mp3 player pretty easy to navigate as not much has changed about how to use it. You switch it on by pressing any of the buttons on the navigation wheel, and switch it off by holding down the play / pause button. Switching it on gives you access to the menu. You then use the navigation wheel to scroll up and down the menu and you make selections with the round button in the middle of the wheel. You are able to switch off the iPod mid-song and then switch it back on again to finish listening!
To upload music to your iPod, you have to first download and install iTunes. iTunes is a free software program which enables you to upload and play music through your computer and also transfer this music to your iPod. You can import music directly from CDs or files saved on your computer using iTunes, there is also an iTunes store where you can pay to download more music and videos. Using this software, you are able to create playlists for your iPod, and many other things such as downloading the artwork for an album so that it appears when playing on your iPod. You are also able to see which of your songs so have played the most and how often each song has been played.
The music quality seems as good as ever, as does the picture quality and will certainly rival other makes of mp3 players. The bigger screen certainly looks good once you start to play with your iPod as now the artwork takes up most of the screen space and the name of the song and artist is written at the bottom, whereas on previous iPods the artwork was only a small photo. This looks a lot more interesting, however if there is no artwork for a few of your albums though it can look annoying as it just appears as a gray music note symbol.
There is one new feature to the Nano which I haven't seen before on an iPod which is the ability to scroll through all the different album covers of your music collection. You can access this feature by tipping it to the left and then scrolling through them all with the navigation wheel. You can then pick an album to play.
Another added bonus that I had not seen before on previous iPods was a new feature called Genius. The point of Genius is it will select a playlist of songs similar to the one you are already listening to, however I find that this produces some very odd results. Genius can be accessed through the menu, however I find Genius quite annoying as I sometimes manage to knock it on when using my iPod, so there must be a shortcut way of accessing it somewhere!
The battery seems to drain a lot quicker than previous models. If you are one of these people, like me, who flicks through many songs before finding one you actually want to listen to, this constant clicking takes it's toll on the battery and can wear it down quite quickly. If you simply press play on your iPod and leave it alone then you will get a much longer battery time.
I've only used the video feature a couple of times but videos seem to play very well on the iPod.
There are a few extras you can use on the iPod in addition to playing music and videos, these are: Photos (store a collection of photos and view them) Calendar Alarms Clocks (find the time around the world) Contacts Games (Klondike, Maze and Vortex) Notes Screen Lock Stopwatch
I find a lot of these are pretty pointless applications or ones you will only use occaisionally. Quite frankly, I'd rather have extra space for music.
Overall Conclusion
All in all, a very good iPod that looks stylish and plays well. These Nanos seem to be very durable as long as you take care of them properly and don't bash them about, they should only need replacing once they have run out of space. They are at the top end of the market for price but it is worth paying the extra in my opinion.
Advantages: Cool design, thin, highly portable Disadvantages: Easy to get scratch without protection
...edges at two sides right-angle, Apple has decided to curve them, making the ipod look even thinner and cooler. The buttons are simillar to the previous generrations with a navigating circle, four buttons ( forward, backward, play/pause, menu) and a button at the center, acts something like the Enter button. There is also a switch at the top left hand corner to lock/unlock the buttons. ==Functions== With a 320x240 colour display, this media player ... ...my oppinion, every product by Apple has really good durability and really reliable. I droped my ipod numerous times and still nothing happened. Thanks to the additional iskin that I bought. A protection is really needed if you want to avoid sratches and damage to your ipod. After six months of using, my ipod is still shiny and in perfect working condition. ==Conclusion== For people who need to carry you music around, this ipod is really one of the ...

Apple iPod Nano 16GB
Apple has always been the most well known brand for making brilliant mp3 players. The iPod Nano is just one of them brilliant mp3 players. The iPod Nano has 16GB of memory, which is great if you have lots of songs and videos on your computer. The Apple iPod Nano can hold up to 4,000 songs or 16 hours of video, which is excellent. The iPod Nano can also hold pictures, which can be viewed at any time. Colours

One of my favourite things about the new iPod Nano is the new design. It is curved on both edges and I personally think that it looks really good. The iPod Nano is very durable and can be dropped without it breaking or getting damaged. The iPod does scratch a little bit but if you keep it in a fairly good condition it looks pretty much brand new.
The iPod Nano can be brought for £149 if you want the 16GB version or if you only ...

Advantages: cheaper, battery life and more memory Disadvantages: loads of useless features
...first glance it looks like apple have gone back to the 1st generation design which im quite happy with as I did prefer this shape to the more square generation 2 with the tiny click wheel.
However something which I still haven't worked out if I like or not yet is its rounded body, I suppose it does make it look a little bit sleeker but I did like the previous square edged ones.
A new feature this ipod has if the ability to turn on cover flow when ... ...this I pretty pointless, its hard to navigate through and it only does your albums so if you've got about 500 plus albums of there its really hard to find the song your looking for. It also means you need to have the picture of every album on. This might be a good feature to show off to your mates who only have the older nanos but when your on your own with it you'll never really find your self using this feature.
New games it has incorporates the ...

Review of Apple iPod Nano 16 GB 4th Generation
Advantages: Sleek and beautiful, holds and streams music perfectly. Disadvantages: The battery dies too quickly. Earphones are crap.
The ipod Nano is Apples new installment into the MP3 franchise. The nano is almost flawless except a few minor things in my experience. The battery life is terrible and the earphones wear away and break so easily. So I would recommend buying new headphones when buying the enw nano. The ipod is very durable and it has everything you need if you want to have entertainment on the go. But at this time I would recommend buyign the Iphone instead because ... ...The ipod nano is more expensive than other ipod models but in the long run it is worth it because of its sheer beuty.
Another negative thing that I must point out is that, give it a year or so and the %th generation will be out. Leaving you behind in the MP3 race! ...
