I got this ipod in feb as a gift from my friend. It's a 16GB ipod nano in orange colour, i purchased a transparent iskin and they just look great together.
Design
Different from the 3rd gen, this 4th gen ipod nano has the traditional rectangle shape, like the 2nd and 1st gen, but it is much more portable and convinient to carry around. With the dimension of 38.75mm x 90.75mm x 6.08mm, you can easily put this ipod inside your jeans pockets. Instead of making the edges at two sides right-angle, Apple has decided to curve them, making the ipod look even thinner and cooler. The buttons are simillar to the previous generrations with a navigating circle, four buttons ( forward, backward, play/pause, menu) and a button at the center, acts something like the Enter button. There is also a switch at the top left hand corner to lock/unlock the buttons.
Functions
With a 320x240 colour display, this media player can play both music and video files. You can also transfer photos into the library to carry around.
As a mp3 player, this ipod nano works perfectly well. The sound quality come out from the ipod headphone is fantastic. You can change the equalizer to suit with your type of music, set volume limit so if you accidentally spin your fingers around the circle button, the volume will not destroy your ears.
The navigating system is effective and intelligent. You can find your songs easily with browsing by song, album, artist or gene. Them menu runs smoothly without any lag, even when the memory is nearly full with thousands of songs inside. The best thing I love about this ipod is the motion censor. You can immidiately switch to coverflow mode just buy tilting the ipod to the side.
The censor really make a great different from its previous generations. Now numerous of application can be built based on it. Just shake the ipod and it will immediately change songs and switch to random playing mode. When viewing photos or videos, by holding the ipod upright, you will view in portrait mode, tilt it to the side and the view mode will change to lanscape. A larger number of new games and applications have already been made for this ipod. They are really fun and simple. Just tilt your ipod to play!
The battery works great. I could listen to music for one whole day without charging the ipod. Personally, I hardly fall into the situation when my ipod runs out of battery as i always plug it into my computer when coming home. For videos, i think i will take about 5 hours before the battery dries out. That's more than enough for 2 movies!
Durablity
In my oppinion, every product by Apple has really good durability and really reliable. I droped my ipod numerous times and still nothing happened. Thanks to the additional iskin that I bought. A protection is really needed if you want to avoid sratches and damage to your ipod. After six months of using, my ipod is still shiny and in perfect working condition.
Conclusion
For people who need to carry you music around, this ipod is really one of the best choice. There are numerous mp3 players out there but i think Apple is always the best in producing reliable and cool prducts. Although I've already had an ipod touch when received this ipod nano from my friend, I decided to sell the ipod touch since besides that touch screen, what is the difference betweem them? And this ipod nano is much cooler and much more portable! If you intended to buy one, I would suggest you order from the Apple website. You can customize your ipod by choosing what to write at the 2 autograph lines behind the ipod from the website.
