I bought my first ever iPod Nano in March ‘09 from an Apple store for £109 and have been using it everyday. Its small size and slim shape allow me to take it anywhere by just simply placing it inside my pocket, without feeling as if I’m carrying around a brick! The great thing about the Nano-chromatic range is that there is a wide range of colours to choose from, for everyone. You can choose from a simple silver or black to a bright yellowy/gold, purple, blue, etc. I decided to go for a bright blue and am very glad that I decided to buy it. Although the 4G Nano’s don’t have shiny stainless steel on the back, I believe this is an advantage. You won’t need to worry about all those scratches that appear on the back like the older generation Nano’s.
After having a look at the older generation Nano‘s, the 4G iPod Nano’s seemed to me to have a better design as they have a larger screen so album artwork really looks great! The resolution looks amazing and very clear whilst watching music videos and really makes this iPod Nano a worthwhile buy. With the new built-in accelerometer, which allows the screen to tilt into widescreen whenever the Nano is tipped onto its side, you can play games such as Klondike, Maze or Vortex much easily and also go through your album cover flow more efficiently to find music.
At the time of purchasing my iPod Nano, I thought 8GB was sufficient to store all my music files, but have now realised it would have been better to go with the 16GB Nano. I tend to transfer new music onto my Nano every week and so find that my memory space gets filled up very quickly. I would recommend people with 1000+ songs in their music library to get an Nano with a larger memory capacity as the 8GB Nano holds only 2000 songs. In addition to this, if you would prefer to buy an iPod to take with you everywhere, I recommend you get a iPod Nano instead of an iPod Classic. This is mainly because of the Classic being larger and less compact and so after 2/3 of years of use, the hard drive can move out of place if you’re on the move constantly. Therefore, the iPod Nano would be a better choice as it is compact, much smaller and more likely to remain intact for 4/5 years or longer.
The iPod Nano 4G is very easy to use to scroll through albums, artists, songs or to change the volume of your music with just a quick swivel of the wheel. There is also a volume limit with a code which can lock a maximum volume of your choice. This is great for parents who worry about the loud volume at which teenagers listen to their music. Other great features include having a shake feature which allows you to shuffle your music by gently shaking the Nano, without having to unlock it first. The EQ (equalizer feature) allows you to change your settings to match your genre of music just right. For example, there is Bass Booster, Dance, Acoustic, Piano and many more. I am currently using the Bass Booster as it makes my music sound a lot better. In my opinion, the Apple earphones that come in the box with the Nano are of a very good quality and have a reasonably long wire so can be used when you’re out and about.
The Nano comes with 3 games called Klondike, Maze and Vortex, however you are able to buy more games through the iTunes store. This is one of the features that I do not use on my Nano as I believe it takes up the battery life very quickly, but the games are great fun when you’re bored or during long journeys.
Overall, this has been one of the best purchases I have made in the past few months, as I have not experienced any problems since buying my iPod Nano. I take it everywhere due to its small, slim shape and felt it was so easy to use and even good value for money. I have recommended it to many of my friends as it is an item I can guarantee you will be pleased with!
