After owning many MP3 players in the past, i finally ended up with an iPod. I've never been a fan of the iPod, as i have always felt that they were expensive and just a style accessory. I received my iPod 4GB Nano for Christmas 2007. When i took off the wrapping, i was very surprised at how small the packaging was. Just a little clear plastic box with enough space to hold the iPod Nano itself, USB lead, headphones and some simple instructions. Im a big fan of small packaging and don't like to see items with alot of wastage packaging so I was very pleased with how the iPod was packaged. When i took out the iPod Nano, i was surprised at how slim it was, and also it is very light. I don't even notice it in my pocket unlike other MP3 players i have had in the past which have been on the bulky side. I needed to charge it via the pc and USB cable supplied and left it to charge for 2 hours. I was given an old charger by a friend (no charger supplied) which i have found useful when travelling with work up and down the country recently, as some places i have stayed over night have not had a pc to charge my iPod via USB. So an old iPod charger does the job just as good. I already had iTunes installed on my pc, as its a shared pc, and some family members connected it up for me. I find iTunes very slow sometimes to use when converting cd to it.
There is also a feature on the iPod Nano called games which i think is an excellent idea. Normally if im stuck at a airport or train station, i can just switch on my games and whittle away the time easily. The iPod came with 2 games installed called Vortex & Klondike which aren't too bad to play, not really addictive in any way, but you can download more which i have done via iTunes and now have a 9 games. At first i found getting used the the wheel control a bit difficult to begin with but after a few days i got on well with it, as its a very fussy control to use.
After charging up, i downloaded some songs which i had already on my PC, at the time i had around 300 songs, which only took me around 30 minutes to put onto the iPod itself, but as ive come more used to it i find it easy to download songs via cd, iTunes or what i have stored on my PC. As i have the 4GB model, i can get alot of songs and videos and even pictures stored. I use it mainly for songs and just have a few videos which use's up the storage pretty easily. Currently i have around 800 songs and a few 30 minute videos, with plenty of room for around 200 more songs or a few extra videos.
The screen on the iPod Nano is amazing, very clear and bright. Some advice here….. If you buy an iPod then please buy a protective screen cover, as they are easily scratched as I have found out. The brightness of the screen can be changed to suit you and if you lower the brightness then you are also saving on battery power. As for the battery, well its claimed 24 hours is possible listening to songs. I have found this to be true as I have used it for a few hours a day over the course of a week, and haven't needed to recharge it till after around the 6th day or so.
Overall I think this is a fantastic MP3 player, with added video and fantastic battery life.
