The
'Apple iPod Classic' is a model among a large range and its possibly the many small things about this model that makes it great, rather than its style and design. When you first see this Classic model its the size that may be first noticeable. It's 10cm high & 6cm wide. So when you pick it up with your hand it fits firmly in your palm and allows your fingers to grip comfortable around the sides.
On the downside its very clumpy in its shape and when in loose pockets it will swing, and in tight pockets it may feel comfortable.
Though the actual weight of the product is almost slight. Apple have made good use of the space given and the actual specs say the weight is 0.14kg. I am surprised it is this much, weight is just fine, its the shape and size that makes this iPod difficult to enjoy when the music is off.
Storage
Storage on the iPod can offer from 4GB and upwards to usually 160GB, mine the 'Apple iPod Classic' has 120GB and the potential to store 30,000 music tracks available to listen to with the touch of a few buttons. The large storage could be rated as excessive but will guarantee along with warranty a long future to download and store all the latest music hits. You will not have to worry about loading speeds and will not have to edit and erase tracks from your genre listings.
Accessing storage to play and manage files is simple. You have the 4 basic options, Play - Add Media - Edit & Erase. There are a few other options in storage which will direct you into create and managing play lists so at times you can choose to listen to a specific genre or collection.
Playing Music & Sound Quality
Headphones are provided which enable you to listen to music & videos on the move anywhere discreetly. They are small but well shaped to fit your inner ears with a built up area around the sound piece using a round curve to make the fit comfortable on the skin. An external headphoneamplifier gives manual control over ambience but automatic controls installed in the device help balance trebles and base. This means you can alter the feed if you are not happy and can listen to the music in which way you choose. Sound Quality is therefore user controlled and can be made specific to your own choice for music and videos individually.
My usual option for playback is by using Play lists. You can create and manage different play lists and there is no limit to the amount you have. Play lists will allow you to listen to music in a precise order. You may choose to order specific play lists with genre or for a collection of your favourites. Another option is to use Shuffle which will randomly pick a music track for you to listen to when the current one ends, this random picking will continue until you select a different option. There are no built-in speakers, but you can purchase small speakers at an extra cost of around £15. Without external speakers you will only be able to listen to videos and music using the headphones whilst pictures and photos are available to view at all times.
Extras
Along with the headphones included are the 'USB 2.0 Cable' & 'Dock Adaptor'. The USB Cable will allow you to connect to a PC and download content. The 'iPod Classic' is compatible with 'Mac 10.4' and above, and 'Windows XP' and above. I nstructions are included and will be very easy to setup and manage after your first time.
The 'Dock Adaptor' is needed for you to use External Speakers and many other accessories, its even possible for the iPod to be connected to a T.V. There are many other accessories made by Third Party Companies and available to help you custom your iPod and maximize its use. Although I mostly use the On-Screen option direct to use and customise my iPod using Play lists and Edit features on music and videos.
Warranty & Reliability
The Manufacturers Warranty is for a 1 YEAR Period. It covers Faulty Hardware/Internal Software. Apple have been criticized over their warranty and cover massively in the past, but I believe if you take pride in yourself and take care of your belongings then the manufacturers warranty should be undisputed.
You will be offered many different prices for Cover Plans by the Retailer consisting of Theft, Damage & Loss. They can give you 3-5 years cover. I paid £39 with Tesco Direct for a 3 years product cover. Despite the many complaints about Apples long live 1-2 years iPods, this 'Classic' model is a massive improvement. The hard drive durability shows to have improved with the flash memory better screen. I believe 3 years will cover and guarantee value for money on this purchase whilst providing me with at the least 3 years of pleasure and entertainment.
The battery used in the Fifth Series of 'iPod Classic' claimed to have more playback time that actually possible on a full battery. However these problems were highlighted and paved the way for this the Sixth in the Series and all future models. A full battery is stated to offer 36hrs music playback. I have never attempted 36hrs but, I can recharge my battery to full and use my iPod for 3-6hrs, mainly morning and late evening for 5 days straight. I usually recharge my battery on the weekend as I use my iPod more on the weekend than any of the weekdays.
My Advice
The iPod no matter which Model or of which Brand is vulnerable to people surrounding. Remember to keep your iPod close to you at all times, away from eyes, use the headphones in public and keep observant.
When buying an iPod think about design. Not just because of which style suits you, but because of which design is most comfortable for your needs and the amount you intend to use it. Look for a smaller lighter design if you will be a high user. Look for a more attractive and high content iPod if you intend to use accessories and mostly at home.
I enjoy listening to music, some hours of the day I would love to listen to music when impossible. But my iPod - 'Classic' allows me to store photos of my daughter, family & friends, but pictures and videos. The Videos are used frequently, the great screen quality using 640 x 480 pixels lets me enjoy the videos clearly with a consistent playback speed and no interruptions.
Is there more that can be done? Yes. Although Audio Streaming has been enhanced from previous models, more options to the features would be a massive improvement seeing as it all works fine. Would like to see something New & Original for playback and managing options.
It's possible for you to buy this for a little over £150.00 although I paid £178 with Tesco Direct. Remember to budget for a 'Product Cover Plan' which is essential for any iPod. You can very well find other models for this price that may suit your needs better and appeal to you more. This is a fantastic model which I have owned for 2 months and still no serious complaint. I was sucked in by the Storage and Durability and they haven't failed me yet.

Postage & Packaging: £0.00 Availability: Out of stock
Advantages: Very good design, reasonable price, massive capacity, sleek, not too big Disadvantages: a bit slow sometimes, perhaps too bulky for some people
Advantages: Looks good, more than just music playback Disadvantages: quite large, not exactly 'pocket sized' only compatable with itunes - not drop and drag.
