INTRODUCTION
I had been anti-Ipod/Apple ever since the beginning; I always viewed it with people who were able to afford it got it just to flash the fact they could afford it. That was 5 years ago. I now realise that was a foolish thing to do; to generalise an entire population of apple ipod customers. This is actually quite a useful thing to have; when I go out to travel long distances with it, I always pick it as a number 1 option to take with me after money. It greatly enhances the journey, no matter where I go.
What did I do before purchasing When looking around for MP3s, I didn't particulary want a cheap one as the rule goes; if you pay more for a product, it will last you longer in the long run. So I knew I would have to pay out a hefty amount of £££ for this. There was only 3 main competitors I knew of that produced quality Mp3s- Creative, Sony and Apple. I knew that Apple was the world's leading manufacturer of mp3s and I heard a lot of 'horror stories' and I had hardly heard of Creative in the technology news;
due to lack of advertisements and such.
Apple did initially put me off with having to use Itunes to move your music onto; as I knew previously it was a heavy and bulky program, slowed down my computer.
Features that attracted me? One of the main reasons that swayed me into buying this was the lyrics function, you can add the lyrics yourself manually in Itunes and click the centre button 4 times, the lyrics actually show up! This feature isn't available in most mp3s- not even Creative. This was particularly useful as I am sometimes hard of hearing so it was nice to have lyrics to accompany the songs.
I wanted the biggest space possible for a reasonable price, I looked at 80GB, thought it was slightly small in comparison to the 120GB. I now realise 80GB is actually perfectly adequate for my music collection. I have quite a LARGE music collection and I have barely filled up a quarter of the capacity! But I know I will fill it up sometime in the future though so it is nice to have some space left over for the future, songs to put on the ipod- definitely an issue if you have 2GB or even a 4GB but not with the 120GB. instead of having to put on what you listen to the most, then swap other songs that you have onto the ipod, take the original music off, then restart over again. Which is rather tedious after a while.
The Product itself
Now; the actual product itself- the iPod might look quite bulky from its picture. It isn't going to fit in your jeans pocket but may fit in your coat or bag pocket so it isn't too much of a hindrance to carry around all the time. The size of it just means it's harder to lose it, which is good when you have paid a lot of money for this product!
The sleek design of the product attracted me to it, rather than any of the other Apple lines; it is deemed as a rather old design, but I know from research that Apple has kept the same design but made a lot of tweaks to it so it is not of the original design that was initially released 5/6 years ago; it is an updated design. The iPod itself is quite thin, I was expecting it to be quite thick so it was a surprise.
The build of the ipod is quite nice and feels like it is worth the money, the very good use of the plastic incorporated with the metal bottom, with Apple engraved on it. However, it is very easy to get it scratched so I would recommend getting a pouch or a rubber pocket to cover it all up if you would, one day like to sell it in a pristine condition.
When using it for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised to how easy it was just to use it via the computer USB. Hearing stories about how difficult it was, my transition was smooth one; all I did was opened up Itunes, dragged my music onto the iPod and it synchronised. That was it. Very quick!
Using the Ipod for the first time was quite a task, using the scroller requires learned movements of the fingers but once you learn it, it is quite nice to use! The sleek display of the albums as you flick through is is quite a delight to watch but after sometime, the novelty does wear off. One of the things Ive noticed as I have piled tons of music on it, it does get a bit slow when it's turned on.
There are 2/3 games which I sometimes play on the ipod, it's just additional features on the ipod but no means that good. It is nicely incorporated with the scroller so you dont have to click each individual markings. Like Vortex- a ball that goes around and you have to get as many bricks as you can get, controlling the ball with the scroller. Also, you can purchase games that are suitable for ipod classic. I have bought several games off Apple store and it has been very good!
One of the things I love about this; as always headphone jacks are always getting pulled out, ipod automatically turns itself off if the headphones comes out. Very nice function to have.
Conclusion
Overall, it is a very good mp3 player, I have been completely satisfied with the design, the size, the sound of the music and ease of accessibility/use of it. Very easy to purchase additional programs you can use on the Ipod via Apple store.

Advantages: Looks good, more than just music playback Disadvantages: quite large, not exactly 'pocket sized' only compatable with itunes - not drop and drag.
