I listen to music all the time. Be it at home, on the way to work or at parties. Because of this I am always interested in the newest products. Of course I went through all the usual phase with cassette players, walkmans, CD players and mp3 players. Unfortunately I could not always go for the best stuff because of my constant lack of money. My first mp3 player I got for £10 on ebay and it did not last very long. I always though about getting an ipod. But I did not want a second hand one. Not that second hand is bad. I’ve done it before. But in this case I just saved my money to get a brand new one. Don’t ask me why. It’s just me. The problem was I did not know which one to get. I went to the shop, and there it was. A whole shelf with ipods. Nano, Shuffle, classic, touch...what??? Anyhow, I knew what my new ipod should be able to do. The shuffle was not for me, as it does not have a screen and I wanted to watch videos. Quite cheap for about
£25 – but not what I wanted. The next price range was the Nano with slightly more memory of 8-16 GB and with video function. Quite small and at about £80 ok in price. Unfortunately it did not have enough memory for me, as I have thousands of tracks I like to listen to. So there it was, my new new baby:
The 6th generation Classic – It has a whopping 120GB of Hard Disk memory. It plays video and of course music. I got it for £160 and it’s definitely worth it.
The instructions says it holds 30,000 songs or 150 hours of video. But this is just on average. It depends of course on the length of each song or movie. I never used more than 82 of it. Which included 5231 songs and two short films. The battery life is brilliant and I cannot complain. I takes 2 hours 47 mins to charge it fully. It’s up to you how you charge your ipod. The most usual way is via the USB cable. But I forked out another £15 to get a wall charger. It just works better for me. Watching videos uses most of the battery life. If you let it run constantly and just play music it plays for about 35 hours. I have not tried it myself as I normally charge it before I go out. But a friend tested it for fun. ( Some people seem to have to much time). There is a little symbol in the corner, which keeps you updated of the battery level. Even though you should not let it go right down as it does not seem to be good for your ipod. The screen can easily be used to watch a film. It’s 2.5 inch LCD. Not extremely big, but ok. I could not find any issues. The Sound is really good. But it depends what headphones you use. The ones that come with the ipod do the job and are ok. I still use them. But I had tried my friends and they seemed to be a better quality. As I do not need the music to burst my ear drums the level you can turn the volume up to seems perfectly fine to me. Even though I have heard some people think it could be a bit louder.
General The ipod comes just in Silver, or Black. Not a very big range. But you can always get a nice cover. It has a Click wheel in the centre, which is easy to use. On the wheel are the play/pause, next, previous and Menu buttons. You turn the volume up and down by scrolling the wheel. It’s very light and just slightly bigger than the other ipods.
Looks The ipod is very easy to scratch. Especially the back, as it is mirror like and you can see every little fingerprint or scratch. Using the Pod is not very different to all the other items in the ipod range. You push the menu button and get the main navigation screen. From there you can go to Music, Video, Photos, Podcasts, Extras, Settings and the shuffle songs option. Once you click the option of your choice you find various sub menus, like genres, artists, albums etc. Furthermore you get Extras like calendar, clock, stop watch, contacts, alarms, games and notes. It’s pretty easy to use. But not very interesting for me..
All in all I thing the ipod classic is a very good buy. Even though it is very costly. If you are a fan of extra bits and pieces it could become even more expensive. There is always something you can buy like a wallcharger, car adaptor, case etc.
Software problems seem to be easily fixed by Apple. So if you want an mp3 player that lasts you long, does not cause a lot of trouble, stores lots of music and can even be used as a main sound system – go for it

Advantages: Looks good, more than just music playback Disadvantages: quite large, not exactly 'pocket sized' only compatable with itunes - not drop and drag.
