Ok so i bought an ipod nano in order to upgrade from my 20gig 3rd generation ipod which had become a bit of an eyesore within the gadget community. I purchased a nano in December and love its small stylish looks and lightweight design, perfect for long distance running. The battery life lasts for over 14 hours of music play after owning one for over half a year which is more than adequate. The 2gig memory on the eye pod holds enough songs to aviod boredom (500) but not enought to carry around your whole collection which i store on my 20gig at home. The product also allows you to store digital photo's, its colour screen makes it easy to see pictures of your loved ones if your travelling far from home.

However, the problems I have had with the nano don't quite support its high class image. On one occasion my nano broke after my brother fell on top of it. (and he's a featherweight) so I was utterly dissapointed. I contacted the retailer who sold me the IPOD NANO and they referred me to Apple via a telephone number. Then I contacted Apple and they required my serial number from the back of my IPOD (very small number - make sure you write it down before ringing). The Apple service person said the IPOD NANO was still under warranty and that it would be repaired free of charge. They offered me two choices: firsty take to a local Apple dealer who would repair or have an empty box sent to me for the return of the IPOD to Apple.

I selected the "empty box" option and had to register on the Internet with Apple. Struggled a little to decipher their website but eventually worked out the correct link and entered all my details. I received an email the next stating that my faulty IPOD had been registered and that the empty box would be arriving shortly. The next day a large brown lorry parked up outside my house (DHL Courier) and a man dressed in a brown uniform came a knocking. He had the emty box and requested my IPOD, please note no headphones, accessories should be sent just the IPOD. He packaged the IPOD into a cardboard box with foam inserts and said they (Apple) are very quick and you should see it back in a few days.

3 days later an email recieved from Apple informing me that the IPOD was ready to be delivered by the courier. the next day DHL returned with my IPOD, it was like new. On closer examination I noticed it was not the same machine but a replacement but it worked fine. The repair service was very good, a compliments slip inside the packaging explained that the IPOD was a replacement which had previously been repaired for another customer. Unfortunately all my songs and pictures had been lost, this was explained to me before I sent the machine to Apple. They advised me to back up all my tunes and pictures to my ITUNES library on my PC. The new IPOD was soon playing my tunes again when I downloaded them back from the software on my PC.

The quick response gave me much respect for Apple as the warranty always there if i ran into future problems. I then purchased a docking station for my nano so i could listen to the crisp quality of mp3 at home in my bedroom. Not only did my tunes sound great, my ipod charged at the same time. It was only after a few days of ownership, that my nano started to look less shiny and sleek. Thanks to my father i bought a crystal clear hard plastic case from ebay to prevent further wear and tear damage. I now proudly flash my ipod on the streets and still use it day after day. I truely reccomend this product to all buyers as the apple free of charge service is more than enough to settle your mind.

A little bit of care, and this product wil last.
Crystal clear hard plastic case no more than £5 on ebay is essential
