Advantages Small, light, holds plenty of songs

Disadvantages None that I can think of!

I bought my iPod shuffle 512mb as a motivational tool! The gym at the College where I work plays Radio 4 in the background - not that I have anything against that radio station but its not exactly the perfect noise to pound on the treadmill to! So I bought this for several reasons:

1. It was reasonably priced (approx £69)
2. It was small and light
3. It was discreet enough to hide under my t-shirt without really being noticed!
4. The amount of songs that it held was more than enough to see me through my workout (approx 120 songs)
5. It blotted out the sound of Radio 4 Comedy Hour!

And it works like a dream. We have an iMac G5 which is the perfect companion to the iPod shuffle (or any iPod for that matter!). Simply plug the iPod shuffle into the USB port at the back of the computer and it automatically syncs with iTunes. You also put it in the USB port to recharge.

The battery life is good, recharge time is fairly quick. The iPod shuffle comes with a lanyard to hang it round your neck and the tell-tale white headphones. The lanyard is also attached to a cover that goes over the top of the USB plug when not in use.

Although you cannot specify specific individual tracks to download you can set the iPod shuffle to play tunes in order, although I find that never knowing what song is coming next is a big part of the appeal!

You can buy various accessories for the iPod shuffle but so far I have resisted. I was tempted by the cassette adaptor which enables the iPod shuffle to be used in a car stereo but found that an old one I had fitted exactly so use that instead. The iPod shuffle is small enough to fit in the ashtray below the car stereo - a perfect storage space (as long as you don't smoke!)

All in all its a great little gadget. Has it motivated me at the gym? Not too sure, but it certainly drowns out the sound of Radio 4!
