I have always been amazed by the hype about the Apple brand since its grand opening in central London's Regent Street in 2004. It suddenly went wild, people camping outside, traffic being diverted… and I was like ok!! However since then the Apple brand and particularly the Apple Ipod brand has blown up enormously. Creating amazing products for the everyday person at somewhat available prices.
Now I am not one for new technology, I tend to sit and watch other people splurge their money, but I am a HUGE fan of music. All music. And I have actually had an mp3 player. But at the beginning of this year I decided to start walking (to lose this Christmas pounds gained after my turkey feast) and found that
my mp3 player felt a little out of date and it was also that odd funny oblong shape which looked like a battery. Now I knew a lot about the Ipod brand as my boyfriend has been a keen follower and for Christmas I bought him the ipod touch. But it was a bit to sophisticated for me so to try and swat up on their products I had a look on the Apple website (www.Apple.com/uk). And I came across the oh so cute and dinky sized ipod shuffle. I read the brief, a (very) small music player available in 2 capacities. 1GB (it holds 240 songs) and now retails at £32 and 2GB (holds up to 500 songs) and now retails at £45. So I thought for the extra £13 I may as well go for the one that holds the most songs. As it's only when you try and choose your favourite tracks that you realise just how many you have! I was also impressed that the apple online store offers free shipping, so the price of the ipod is all you pay (unless you want express delivery). The Ipod shuffle is available in a whopping 5 colours, silver, light purple, aqua, a light mint colour and also red in an aluminium enclosure. It's a shame it does not come in the Ipods original white but I guess they have their reasons.
Choosing the colour was difficult but I decided to go for the red, not only does it look fantastic and you don't find many music players in this colour but its also a (product)RED special edition. Its exclusive to the Apple online store so you know its 100% genuine but Apple also contributes a portion of the purchase to the Global fund to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa. Which I think is brilliant. The fact we are lucky enough to have the money and the freedom to buy these products makes it seem very worthwhile. It is not just the ipod shuffle red that is donating and you can check out more about the movement at www.joinred.com. The ipod itself comes with the original white headphones which I must say are a great fit and do not fall out of my ears and the earphones keep the music in so people around you can not hear what you can!! The shuffle has up to 12 hours of battery life. Which is amazing in such a small thing, it comes with a very small USB dock which charges the ipod when it is attached to the computer so I can charge it at work or home. The ipod has a small clip at the back which fits anywhere, I hide it inside my coat attached to whatever top i am wearing and it is easily accessible. You hardly notice its there!
On the ipod you can skip between songs but because it is so small and a very simple model and it is smaller then a matchbox so it doesn't have a screen to tell you what songs are playing etc, but its sound quality is brilliant and it does flick through the tracks very quickly. I must also add that after dropping this several times on my long walks it is still in perfect condition, so its small but strong!
When you first plug the ipod into the computer it downloads all the itune stuff you need and even exports your current library of music into the new ipod library and you can swap and choose what songs you want to sync (put on) your ipod. It also allows you to download tracks from the itunes website which I must say at 79p per track can get quite addictive so be careful because it does at up!!
So… so far my small ipod shuffle has worked wonders, not just for the brilliant price, quality or service but because it's also helping people not as lucky as us. Very recommended. I am no longer an ipod stranger!
