I was looking into purchasing an iPhone around christmas time and actually received the iPod Touch 32gb as a present.
The product almost defines quality. The build quality, as you can expect, is second to none for example.
However, in my opinion, i do have a hard time justifying the cost. Touch screen is just another fad that seems to be going on at the minute, and however pretty it looks, it wont last. Smudges will cover your screen and you will find yourself having to tilt the iPod away from sunlight just to see the screen.
Another problem is the back casing has no scratch resistance. It is remarkably easy to scratch, so i would recommend getting a carry pouch if you do purchase one.
Overall, i like the product, but i am somewhat a stickler for perfection (as should everyone who is paying upwards of £200 for a fad product) so i would not purchase one of these for myself. The cost just for the latest apple fad is to much for what is essentially an mp3 player with a few gimmicks.
I think in time you'll want to rewrite this review. The more you use your ipod the more you'll get to appreciate the features.
I'd argue the ipod touch is far more than just an ipod, its a web enabled device unlike most of the mp3 pack, it plays video files like many of the other mp3 player pack, but most importantly its a good gaming device i'd say mid way between a DS and a PSP.
I do agree though first thing you should do when you buy one is buy a screen protector and a silicone case to keep it pristine.
