Is the product for you?
If you want a product which is extremely stylish, well known, has super fast internet capabilities, a good little media player for all music and high definition pictures and videos and can be taken anywhere then this is the product for you

If you after a product which does all this but is a mobile as well then I would recommend looking at an IPhone

The product in one
Many people will say there isn’t many difference between this IPod and the previous version, which in terms of dimensions and capacity there isn’t, they are both the same shape and both store just as much. This version may have slimmed down a little but nothing that is really noticeable. Unpack-aging the item and actually using it for yourself you can see there are many little features on this which make it worth paying that bit extra for.

One of the first noticeable features to this new IPod is the 2 cameras that are on board, one on the back and one on the front. The rear camera enables the user the perk of HD video recording at the standard 1280 x 720 and 30fps, although when compared with the IPhone 4’s camera the footage from the camera doesn’t seem anywhere near as crisp and in depth and it can look very noisy in low lit rooms even though it has the CMOS sensor just like the IPhone 4, but it does prove to work in well lit areas and you will find it pretty useful. Using the camera photos you will strangely find that you can only capture them at 960 x 720 Pixels which doesn’t make much sense and the photo quality is mostly pretty poor, you will tend to find they are pretty flat looking, very lifeless and a bit grainy.

The camera on the front of the IPod touch is great for making face time calls which can be good fun if you’re into that thing and will produce pretty clear streaming.

The display on the IPod touch has been updated which many people fail to recognise for some reason as it is very noticeable when reading web links whilst zoomed at as everything has added clarity, it has been taken from 480 x 320 to 960 x 640 pixels. This is pretty good for all the apps and games on the IPod touch and video play back especially whilst on the move. This is Apple’s “Retina” screen they have introduced.

The processor on the IPod touch is what we would expect, it is Apple’s A4 processor which is more than powerful for this little device, which doesn’t really make up for the lack of ram though as this IPod has half of the ram (memory) compared to the IPhone 4. This means that when you are playing games and using apps sometimes, depending on the app or games requirements, it could run a little jittery in certain places, although I haven’t found many that do this apart from some of the video editing software which is like 1GB in size alone.

With iOS 4.1 on board it’s just like using an iPhone, complete with Apple’s huge library of apps and brilliant selection of games. Web browsing performance matches the iPhone 4’s too, rendering the BBC homepage over a fast Wi-Fi link in an average of eight seconds, and completing the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark in a fast 10.5 seconds.

Music playback on this device is more than over accomplished, there is enough power to drive both the over the ear and the in ear headphones to deafening levels which I don’t really agree with as they will literally deafen you slightly. I tested out all types of music genres from classical to dance to bassline to dubstep to pop and they were all delivered with perfection and clarity, especially with the earphones provided.

Overall despite me putting it down for compared to the Iphone 4 this device actually excels above its competitors in all of its aspects, its screen size and clarity, its processing speed and memory, it’s capacity and video and music playback, so I would definitely recommend this product.

Does the Product Achieve its Purpose?
This product achieves its purpose in providing an a media device with high definition playback and capture, with a crystal clear screen which beats it’s competitors.

Breaking it down

· High definition media capture and playback

· Wireless Compatible

· A great range of apps and games

· Crystal clear 3.5inch screen

· Available in 8GB 16GB 32GB and 64GB

· Available in New White or Black

· 256mb of RAM

How to Improve
To improve this product I would adjust clarity in dim light for media capture and increase resolution for photo capture.
