Firstly its like no other ipod as its vast array of features are so diverse and of cause this is due to its wifi internet ability. you can find all the features on their website, but I would like to say a few things before you go and click but to this quite expensive device. If your not to worried about a built in speaker and slightly new look, you could try a slightly long winded way of saving a bit of money by looking to buy the first generation ipod touch they have all features as the new one but do not include the speaker or slightly new look. But of cause as it is the new model, apple may have probably made them more versatile. So if your on a budget go for the 1st gen, but if you have a bigger budget buy the 2nd generation.
The feature for this device are so diverse and good it would take an entire book to summarise them all ( app store applications included of course!!!!). First there are the stand main feature music, video, photo and new to ipod, as seen on iphone, internet. the 8GB version holds up to and over 7500 songs depending on size and quality. There is of cause the new feature of genius. This arranges songs that go well together when you "genius" a song. This is similar to the sony erricsons and walkmans mood selector, as it sorts them by genre, so you can choose songs by how you feel. Next theirs the video player. you can store up to 70 hours of video also depending on size and quality this can be more or less. I feel this is plently of space and going for the higher GB touches are what I call pointless memory, because if you know your not going to hav 30,000 odd songs, its a waste of money. This is why I prefere them over the classics, as 120GB isn't really practical.
Of course this device is very durable. on many occasions I have dropped it and once on Concrete (to my surprise) it still survives!!! However they still haven't chosen more practical materials as the back scratches so easily and does become dull looking very rapidly if there is no case. Apart from that it is a tough little device.
The applications available on the device when bought new, are calculator, weather, stocks, maps, itunes, app store, contacts, youtube, clock and notes. these are all design brilliantly and can all be used with great ease as the touch interface and accelerometer ( makes page turn when tilted). However when the ipod is connected to the internet the apps store is opened. This has an almost infinite amount of apps for your ipod from games like monkeyball ,and driving, to office apps such as orginiser. There are also the free apps which are very good as these include facebook, google earth, bbc news, flights, games and 1000's of others with new ones being added to the store each day.

Advantages: Great build quality, does it's job well, screen is tough and brilliant battery life. Disadvantages: Back of iPod scratches really easily, and screen suffers from fingerprints easily.

Advantages: Amazing for Mp3/Mp4 functions and amazing for gamily. Range of features are brilliant!!! Disadvantages: the speaker is a very poor addition to the 2g ipod touch, very tinny
