First thing is first. With any Apple product you know it will be very expensive, very cool and pretty simple to use. I have been an Apple fan for a while and have have an iPod mini (4gb), iPod video (30gb) and now my iPod touch (as well as a Mac mini =] ).
If you are wanting an MP3 player that will just play your music then you may be put off the iPod touch as for the same price you can have a considerably bigger music player. However the Album Art scrolling feature- known as Cover Flow make it more interesting, and there is nothing more fun than scrolling through your albums with your fingers!
However this is a lot more than an MP3 player. Although it will hold 2000 songs or tonnes of videos it also has a lot more features built in. With its built in Wi-Fi you are able to use Safari to surf the internet. In my experience the internet isn't particularly fast but for checking wikipedia in Starbucks it isn't painful. Most of the websites you usually access from home are available free through the application downloads such as eBay, MySpace, Facebook, Last FM and YouTube, all of which i use regularly and are as stable as the websites themselves.
The maps feature is great, it uses Google maps to find places or get directions and can be viewed as a map or as a google earth satellite. This is only available when an internet connection is on and the map cannot be saved which is a shame.
The calender and contacts functions are fantastic if you have a Mac as the can be easily synchronised, however if you are a PC user you may need to pay for a MobileMe account to be able to do this. The Mail is fast and I have set mine up with a POP3 account (Virgin Mail) however it can be set up with Hotmail and most other email providers.
Now... the bad bits....
Of course this is made by Apple, so it will have a crazy price tag however I have found that of all my iPods this is the best value for money as you have so many features, many of which I use regularly and aren't just gimmicks!
The built in speaker in the 2nd generation iPod touch is incredibly disappointing. The sound is tinny and worse quality than most mobile phones, so is not a feature worth having at all. In fact i find it irritating as when i click Play when my headphones aren't plugged in my music plays and sounds horrrible! very embarrassing.
Overall the iPod touch is very easy to use, however some of the free applications have glitches, which is understandable as most are still in development. When I have had problems the Apple support online has been very good and solved all my problems.
The battery life when listening to music is good however when on the internet etc. as well it drains much quicker.
Also obviously a very shiny ipod is susceptible to scratches and mucky finger prints. I recommend buying a case as I did, as without it I'm sure my iPod would be ruined! I bought an iPhone case and aside from the hole for the camera at the back, it fits perfectly.
Also hold onto your cloth that comes in the box! this proves very useful!
Thats about all I can think off as far as the iPod Touch goes...
oooh, it's very good for watching BBC iPlayer!
Any questions, just ask :)
oohh and a lot of people say they love the games, however I find the tilt control too sensitive and not worth the hassle... but the free games are always worth a shot :)
iPod touch features the same multi-touch screen technology as iPhone. Pinch to zoom in on ... more
