ipod touch 8gb review

i purchased the ipod touch about a year ago and have loved it ever since, everything from its easy to use touch screen to its amazing appstore, definitely the best mp3 player i have ever purchased and even at £160 it was still a bargain.

design

the ipod itself comes in a small plastic box which includes the ipod itself, the usb cable to allow connection to the computer and itunes, apple headphones, dock adapter and a compact instruction manual. the ipod comes with a screen protector on it which has to be removed but once you remove it you see the high quality screen which the ipod has.

the ipod itself is a tiny 8mm thick with a screen size of 3.5inches, the screen is amazing quality from the brightness to the colours, the only negative i have to say about the screen is that fingerprints do show up very easily. as you move down the ipod you see the home button which is used to return to the homescreen of the ipod at any time, then there all the volume buttons on the left hand side and the lock button/power off button at the top, the 3mm headphone port is situated at the bottom of the ipod.

as for the back of the ipod its is the typical silver chrome finish found on almost all ipods, but as for the screen fingerprints are an issue, so i do recommend getting a case if you dont like fingerprints and scratches on the back of your ipod.

the touch screen

this is the first ipod where touch was an added feature so i was pretty skeptical on how good the touchscreen would be but what do you know apple pulled it out of the bag as this touchscreen is excellent and so responsive it really is state of the art.

applications

one of the main reasons i purchased the ipod touch was because of the wide range of applications available, as standard the ipod comes with a few applications as you would expect, some of which are, appstore, safari, weather, youtube and so on. but the best apps and games are found on the appstore where there are thousands you can download in nearly no time at all, some of the games and apps are even free and the ones you have to pay for are never too expensive.

storage space

i bought the 8gb version because i am always deleting and changing my music so didnt think i would used 8gb, but what i didnt take into account was how much storage the games would take up. as i have downloaded at lot of games and dont want to delete any of them 8gb is not enough memory for me so if you have lots of songs and like to play games i would recommend the 16 or 32gb version.

Speakers and battery life

this is the first time an ipod has come with built in speakers and even though they are a nice feature i have to say that i am a little disappointed with them, reason for this is that they are too quite for my liking but that will be something for apple to think about next time.

as for the battery life i was a little disappointed by this also as it lasts nowhere near the 36 hours appl said it would last, if you play on games it doesnt even last a few hours but it is generally good for just listening to music.

taking all that into account i would reccomend this to anyone for its wide range of features, great design, and abilty to play quality games on such a small device, even with the negative took into account the positives far outweigh them so i cannot fault the product.
