Easy Peasy Photo Editing

Advantages: Easy to use for beginners
Disadvantages: some items hard to find

...potential. Selection Tools. Photoimpact features the usual selection tools common to nearly all editors like circle, rectangle and freehand (lassoo) which are easy to apply. A good tip for improving a photo is rather than freehand around a face for example before sharpening it, is to draw a quck rectangle or circle as this way if you don't oversharpen it will blend in with the whole photo. I use this for improving my daughters face on photo's and ...
...Overall. Overall, PhotoImpact is the perfect image editor for the novice as the thumbnails take all the guesswork out of the settings to apply, unlike other programmes like Paint Shop Pro. However, a lot of experimenting will uncover modes and features that are hard to access, so root around the menus and easy palette to your hearts content. Once you're competent with it you'll be amazed at what you can do. U-lead are now on version 8, and a demo ...

Ulead VideoStudio 8 Complete Package

Advantages: Ease of use, SmartSound, improved audio and titling
Disadvantages: No background rendering, some new features a bit fiddly.

...As well as the CD, Ulead Video Studio 8 includes not one but two printed manuals. The first is a user guide to the software. This covers all the basics and helps get you up to speed quickly without being too onerous a read. Also included is a rather neat guide to Digital Video editing in general by Douglas Spotted Eagle (really!). For beginners this is a great read and Ulead deserve a big pat on the back for including this second book. System Requirements ...
...music generation system. At last, Ulead have added this feature care of SmartSound. And about time too. This feature really works well. You select a clip and a music style and SmartSound creates a custom piece of music of the exact length needed. The resulting music is usually surprisingly good, especially given that it gets created for a random period of time. It is also royalty free which is useful if you intend distributing your results. A number ...

It's COOL alright

Advantages: Does a superb job quickly and easily.
Disadvantages: none

Ulead Cool 3D is an exceptional package when you consider what it does compared to how much you might expect to pay for such a package. I bought my copy in The Works of which there are quite a few branches spread all over the UK, it cost me £3.99 and was an excellent investment. The program is very easy to install, just insert the CD and follow the simple instructions, and in a few minutes you'll be up and running. The program opens up with a large ...
...that's why they call it Cool 3D. There is a tremendous amount you can do with this program like creating your own MGM type logo to use at the beginning of all your home videos and DVD's. I edited one of the samples supplied and came up with what I consider to be a very professional looking logo where three balls spin around and when the meet they change in D O N again quite simple but effective. All your creations can be used as part of your DVD/Video ...

Good application but not perfect

Advantages: Creates pro looking DVDs, supports dual layer DVD
Disadvantages: The slideshow functionality is not reliable, costs too much

On the whole I like my DVDW2 but it has some problems see below. I had the DVDW1 and upgraded but even so the price was still too high for what you get. So what do you get? When you start up the app, you get the option to open an existing project or create a new one. When creating a new project you get to choose DVD, SVCD or VCD - nice to have but I can't see why anyone would want to create SVCD or VCD when you can create a DVD with up to 3 hours ...
...few minutes, half an hour at most and I've found that they are not compatible with a lot of DVD players. Selecting DVD you can set up the quality at the start using a template (i.e. what sort of DVD quality you want to save the project as for writing to DVD - very high quality gives around 1 hour of video - lowest quality gives around 3 hours on a 4.7G DVD - around double these values on dual layer DVD) Now you select what you need to do in the ...

Easy Squeezy Yummy Java

Advantages: Simple to use, great effects and choices
Disadvantages: None!

...new software. The other day JavaRazor by Ulead landed on my PC desktop :) For those of you who are into creating rather nice looking Web pages with minimum fuss then I would take a serious look at this simple tastey little package. The package comes with two installables - Animator and Button Applets. Using either provided wizards or the properties options (for more control) you can very easily create animated buttons. You can add your own backgrounds ...
...colours. For example - on the MouseOver event the colour can be set to Neon. This means you get a great glowing effect around your text on this event. Buttons can be different shapes too - just select what you want! The buttons are displayed in a simple Explorer type area and these can be re-ordered simply by using the tool bar arrows provided. The Applet it self can be re-sized so it can cater for what ever sized buttons you want! Animator allows ...
