Advantages: Fantastic time; would do it all over again!
Disadvantages: Everyone makes references to sheep!!

...Not necessarily because of the course, but Bangor is fantastic! The atmosphere is great and I felt at home there - you can never walk through any part of Bangor without seeing someone you know! The university is big enough to meet so many great friends and interesting people, but small enough to feel that you leave your mark on the city! The course is ideally located as Bangor is the European Centre of excellence for Marine Sciences. The field trips are probably the best provided by any UK university. The course, itself, however can be no different in content from Biology, Zoology or Applied Zoology - it all depends on what choices you make for subjects. The first year was frustrating as there are a lot of compulsory units that I didn't like; but the last two years have some fantastic choices like 'Parasitology' and 'Biology... Read review

Advantages: study at your own pace

...I completed a course at my local college (and I passed with flying colours) but there was no step up into a further level of study without going away, which was not possible due to a death in the family and i now have a broken toe which needs an operation. My tutor told me about the OU and gave me there website deatils. I applied for the Bsc Natural sciences with biology. This course does not start until feb 2003. the lowest course level that you can study is Bsc and Msc (master of science). One of the higher level courses is Phd which gives you the title of doctor. There are all sorts of courses available. I really only know the science courses as that is what I study. But with a little research I have discovered that you can study english, languages, maths, child education. I know of one subject that is not available is photography... Read review

...I was an overseas student who was interested in studying molecular biology (Genetics) in England. Twelve years ago very few universities offered the course I am interested in. I applied to 5 and got accepted at three (Sheffield, Leeds and Nottingham). After visiting them all I found the department of Genetics at Nottingham university and the city itself most appealing. It has a beautiful campus, excellent academic and research facilities. People are very friendly and helpful especially with overseas students. During my course, my lecturers and tutors were incredibly supportive. The course structure was very structured and interesting. When I put in all the effort required, it was no trouble passing my exams. I enjoyed my course so much that I went on to do my PhD in the same subject. ...So you decided you want to go to university and do drugs?OK, pharmacology is your best (legal!) bet. Bristol has an excellent reputation as a university, and the pharmacology course seems to live up to it. It has been rated excellent and given 23 out of 24 in the national assessments, but i'm sure that the department will tell you all about that sort of thing anyway! The standard offer is BBB, but can vary quite considerably depending on the quality of your UCAS form (I was offered CCC and my flatmate was offered ABB). It is required that you have studied A level chemistry, and although its not a requirement, you are definitely at an advantage if you have studied A levels in biology and maths (stats). Your first year doesn't actually count towards your final mark, but if you are planning on applying for a year out in industry... Read review
