A must for AS Chemistry!
Review of Advanced Modular Sciences: Chemistry AS by bluejules

Advantages: Colourful, subject well covered, regular questions to test your knowledge
Disadvantages: Sometimes too detailed, paragraphs too long, expensive

...knowledge on the topic so far. There are also 'application boxes' throughout the chapter. These give extra information on the subject which make it easier to apply the material both to the 'real world' (i.e out of the classroom setting) and in the exam (which at the end of the day, is the most important part of the learning process!) The application boxes also have some questions to test your knowledge further still! At the end of each chapter there are questions from past exam papers. These are excellent practice for the exam. I have only had one AS chemistry exam, but found that the questions in the book along with other past papers helped prepare me for my exam. Unfortunately, there are no answers in the book for these questions. Beneath each of the exam questions it does state which exam board the question came from and in which year. Our... Read review

Very challenging
Review of Chemistry by robin_best

Advantages: Good analytical instruments
Disadvantages: Course closed

...This is an excellent course but it is very challenging as chemistry is the hardest course that you can do ever, finish a chemistry degree and you are set for life as 70% of chemistry students dont do science but can move into law accountancy ECT, as you are trained to a high standard and have good numeric skills. So a chemistry degree is useful but the facilities in this uni for chemistry have been neglected for a long time and so they could be better but the uni has a NMR nuclear magnetic resonance and a MS mass spectrometer, which quite a lot of unis, dont have. The analytical section of the course has a lot of instrument to use, analytical is optional but very useful, they have HPLC high performance liquid chromatography, GC gas chromatography and a few others but HPLC and GC are the main ones, also there is a CGMS... Environmental Chemistry
Review of Chemistry by loooeze

Advantages: Small friendly department, interesting course
Disadvantages: It never stops raining in Bangor!

...The Chemistry Department at Bangor is small, but this isn't a disadvantage. Because it's a small department, everyone knows each other by name, and its very friendly. There is no problem with asking for help with the course at any time, the lecturers will go out of their way to help if they feel they can. The chemistry course itself is challenging (what would be the point if it wasn't?) but also extremely interesting. You follow 6 modules a semester (of which there are 2). The modules are well thought out and carefully structured to fit your degree. There are many variants of chemistry degrees to choose from. Pure chemistry, Environmental chemistry, joint honours chemistry to name but a few. All courses follow a set of core modules with students getting a choice in some of the others. Exams are at the end of every semester for most... Read review
