Microbiology at Reading
Review of Microbiology by  ann

Advantages: a good well taught course
Disadvantages: work not marked soon enought

...Microbiology at Reading consists of three years of taught units. It is well organised but not expect to get any work back on time, some of the work i handed in, in the first year i didn't get back until my final year. The subjects taught are all very interesting in the first year basically you follow a biology degree title and get a lot of choice in which units you take. In the second and third year you get a not much choice in the units you take but the subject taught are diverse and cover all the main areas of microbiology these include some interesting units about BSE, HIV, and emerging viruses. This is definately a subject worth taking. And most qualify with a good degree. In the third year you also get to carry out a ten week project which allows you to gain a feel for research.... Review of Applied Computing by  reeceferguson

Advantages: Staff, students, and excellant course content
Disadvantages: None

Set in two buildings, The Jam Factory and The Microcentre the department really feels like it is its own community, with three labs and a lecture theatre it is adequately resourced to deal with the relatively small class sizes. In the Jam Factory there is also a coffee room where staff and students both hang out and everybody is very relaxed and gets on. With our own society MACS the students and staf regularly enjoy outings and drinking events together which helps to create a great atmosphere. Everyone knows each other by first name. The course is also brilliant, all staff are interested in helping people with disability giving a slightly different slant on computing.... Read review

Ever wanted to see sour milk under a microscope
Review of Cambridge Advanced Sciences: Microbiology and Biotechnology by  Sarah_Louise

Advantages: Covers everything needed for this unit, pretty interesting, tells you how to do the practicals
Disadvantages: Not all questions have answers , this book isn't in colour

...;Microbiology and Biotechnology’. Other option books include: Growth, Development and Reproduction, Applications of Genetics, Environmental Biology, or Mammalian Physiology and Behaviour (the one I wanted to do!) These books are specifically designed for the OCR board, so, unlike with most text books, you can’t really just get any old book on the topic with these ‘option’ modules. No other board that I know of specify an ‘option’ unit. So what’s in the book? The book is divided into six chapters corresponding to the components Microbiology, Techniques used in Microbiology and Cell culture, Large-scale production, Biotechnology in Medicine and Biotechnology in Industry and Public Health. Contents... Read review
