Well where do I start on this fine piece of machinery, well I suppose I could give you a bit of background of how a began to ride this bike, well I acquired my provisional licence at the age of 16 and pottered around on a little motorbike until my 17th birthday when I became restricted to a 125cc engine. I immediately went for the sporty model and had to choose between a Honda NSR or an Aprilla RS 125 and the Aprilla won hands down.

So I came to some sort of deal with my local motorbike trader and purchased the machine for £3895 on a W plate (brand new at the time) which I considered to be a reasonable price for my money, and the good thing that I found was the insurance was through Aprilla itself so I think I paid around £700 for 12 months fully comp, which at the age of 17 on a learner plate I thought was a good deal.
Now I suppose I can’t really compare the bike to another other as I have never rode another (besides a Honda melody L) but I will try anyway. As soon as I sat on the bike I was surprised if was really comfortable and I always s imagine people who rides race reps to suffer from back problems but this was really comfy, the handlebars seem to be positioned in the right place and the gears where also streamlined with the rest of the bike, there was room for a pillion but it was very limited and although I did carry a passenger once I really wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The features of the bike that I liked was a digital thermometer, clock and timer but I seem to think that they invested all that money into making that feature they could of tried to involve the speedometer and mileage into the digital display as well, but one of the most liked features had to be the speed, I think the top speed that it was capable of doing was around 110 mph, it wouldn’t really maintain that speed but it came in handy on overtaking the bike use to like running at around 75mph which it was quite capable of doing.
The overall design of the bike and its looks was spot on, just what a boy racer like myself wanted, it was a real eye catcher, but I have heard a few complaints about the bike and one of the main ones where the side stand, many of the people I had spoke to said they have had problems of the side stand bending and resulting in the bike falling over on its side and with the panels only being made from plastic they scratched very easily, out of the people that I spoke to this problem seemed to be on the S – W reg bikes, but personally I had no problems with the side stand. The bike, I found, wasn’t to good on fuel, I couldn’t really give you any figures, but I think I use to get around 120 mile to about £8 of petrol (a full tank) which yeah might seem good but taking into account it was only a 125cc engine, it isn’t really all that good.
When I said I had no problems, I did have a problem with the exhaust, it split around 6 months after I purchased the bike, so it was still under guarantee with the manufacture, so I had that replaced but if I was to of paid for the part and labour, it could of cost me a arm and a leg, so I suppose that is a downfall of the bike, the parts wasn’t really cheap and to the best of my knowledge they where hard to get hold of, you could wait a few days for something as simple as a light bulb, anyway putting any problems aside, I found the bike to be amazing and well worth the trouble, unfortunately, I failed my test twice and then my licence expired so I had to sell the bike but wait till I am 21 and I will be back on the road again, only I think a R1 after passing my test, so watch this space (about 11 months and counting) and will let you know my opinion once again
Advantages: Probably the fastest standard 125 available. Disadvantages: Cost of the bikes.
...price. Then i seen these aprilia rs125 bikes and had herd by a lot of people that they were the fastest 125's you can get so i looked into it a bit more then decided i wanted one, not long after searching for one in my price range i found one on EBay for 2000 model for £450 i think it was but it had a few days left but i wanted to go and view the bike so my dad took me to view it with the cash just in case. When i got there we had a look at the bike ... ...had been hand painted with a paint brush on the wheels by the looks of it lol and it was scratched to death, in other words it was a right mess but we started it up and the engine seemed to sound in pretty good order and no knocks or rattles so then we asked if they would sell it there and then cash, after a short discussion we settled on £500. I rode the bike home that night following my dad in his car and it rattled like mad for some reason, got ...

Advantages: Handling, Looks, Engine, Performance per cc Disadvantages: High Maintenance, Use expensive Fully Synthetic oil
...parts can be fitted genuine aprilia parts to create the fastest stock RS. Thinks like decatted origianl exhaust and 34mm carb for example. I can recommend a good set of tyres i have been using the d209GP's very very sticky but i don't like to compromise on the only thing keeping me upright :).
Some perfomance stats which i have done myself off road are 0-60 -6.5s
99 on a flat -Wind dependant and wider weight dependant
The figures are excellent ... ...the bike is keeping it in to 8-11.5k sweetspot (powerband) and blasting through a good set of twisties. The handling and feel through the suspension/chassis gives me real confidence to corner at speed and the brakes are also reassuringly good. (ebc sintered pads recommended upgrade here for more bite but the stock pads arn't bad) ...

...my friend was selling his Aprilia RS125 Extrema. This bike in true Italian pedigree looks the mutts, a mixture of jet black, a lot of eye catching devilish red with hints of the frames aluminium alloy make up the chassis, leaving black alloy wheels with fat racing tyres to move the bike that are controlled by huge metallic brake discs which make up this hot racer. This builds upon Aprilias’ RS124 reputation as the fastest 125cc bike and is ... ...this bike a lot of respect. My dials are white and are in kilometres per hour and the odometer/trip meter in kilometres so you will have to remember the conversion to keep within the law. The bike I ride is also derestricted letting the revs wind up all the way to the max, and to be seen you will have to cover the blinding flash from left hand front light to make it road legal
You will find that this bike is hard to wheelie as it is weighted to ...

Advantages: Bloody Awesome! Cheap TP only insuance. Disadvantages: High Mantainance. 2-stroke.
Got my RS125 back in June 2006 not too long ago. Opened the garage door and thought... WOW. its a big bigger than my speedfight lol. For the average 17 year old its a big bike; and a load of fun; its leaner legal for us starters! One thing that did dissapoint me a bit though would be the fact that it is still a 2-stoke engine; and not being a fan of extremely loud screaming noises it bummed me of a bit. When i got it out onto the road it was amazin ... ...with the traffic and everythin. One thing i gotta warn anyone goin from a scoot to a sports bike tho is do ur stretches b4 ridin lol. i pulled over in a few bus stop and sat there and screamed! kept pullin my muscle in my left leg for the first fortnight becuase of the position of the controls on sports bikes. but once ur used to it its amazin. my bike was a W reg so 6 years old.
i remember one day i was takin it for a ride over the top of the hills ...

Advantages: Nimble, peaky 2 stroke engine, lightweight fun for teens and adult alike Disadvantages: Running costs, possibiltiy of 'dumping it', winter!
I have an Aprilia RS125 Tetsuya Harada race rep, which i have owned since October 2000, i brought the bike brand new and had no hassles with it up to its first service at 600 miles.
The servicing was done by Motorcycle city which then changed names to Riossi and ha now shut, Riossi is part of the Dixon motor group, before you buy any vehicle i would strongly suggest that you check that Dixon motor group do not own the garage / dealership etc you ... ...me that my poor little Aprilia wasn't any good, but i didn't want to believe them, so i took the bike to Alf England's in Bedworth, Warwickshire, although they are not an Aprilia dealership, their knowledge is second to none and they stripped my engine and rebuilt it although this was not claimed under Aprilia's warranty because they are not an Aprilia's dealership so i found myself £430 out of pocket. I decided to harass Aprilia for a reimbursement ...

Advantages: A quick reliable bike, can be ridded on L-Plates Disadvantages: A bit unrefined at lows revs (two stroke misfire)
I use my '89 Yam TZR 125 every day as a means of getting to work. It has done 35,000 miles, 7000 of which have been done by myself. It is fully de-restricted (servo power valve connected) and can top 100mph on a good day It has needed very little work apart from a new clutch, chain and sprockets (General Wear and Tear). They are easy to maintain and while yamaha genuine parts are quite pricey, you are guaranteed good quality and robustness when you buy them, in my opinion you HAVE to use the genuine parts, don't trust pattern products as they are always of lesser quality.
It is in the same class as a Cagiva Mito, ApriliaRS125, Honda NSR125R and a Suzuki RG125. It out performs the latter japanese bikes but lags behind the italian models. However the italian bikes suffer from reliability problems, parts availability troubles ...

Advantages: Nimble, light, ideal for short riders, reliable, excellent miles per gallon Disadvantages: Tall riders look ridiculous and find the riding positions uncomfortable.
tyres will grip as well as any other. Let's take the ApriliaRS125 for example! Now the RS125 stock tyres have pretty good grip, even better than the CBR125R's actually, but the tiny tyres on the CBR will show you how well the CBR skinny/small tyres perform. Do not be afraid to lean the bike on these tyres, because I assure you, they WILL grip. Perhaps not so much in the wet, but you really shouldn't be leaning too much when it's wet.
Now let's get the most important thing out the way. The CBR125R is a 4-stroke, and depending on rider will get about 70 MPG. The good thing about this is that you won't have to keep mixing oil and paying twice as much as you would on a 2-stroke, and you will not need much maintenance. The bulletproof engine on the CBR125R will be good for at least 100,000 miles! Whereas 2 strokes require rebuilds way before ...
