Overall, the RS50's a great little bike for a 16 year old. Very nippy with great handing, however just make sure your parents will ... more
I bought my RS50 in september of 2007. It was a 2006 model ( NOT the under-seat exhaust one ).
First of just to clarify, RS50's are fast - FOR A 50.. they do not go 80mph.. you will be extremely lucky to get one that does 70mph without a bore kit on it.. my bike does 65mph, however this is when the needle is past the redline, and if you do that for long enough your engine will seize/blow. On that note, if you don't warm the bike up for a couple minutes, you largely increase the chances of seizing the engine.
Good points:
-The handling is second to none. You won't find another 50cc thats got handling like the RS50. My dad owns a Bandit 650 and he said my bike actually had slightly better handling. After getting used to riding it you'll easily have the confidence to find yourself getting right over in the corners.
- The bike is very versatile.. in town you can throw it round tight corners and when on long open roads you can get open the throttle and get it gliding round the bends whilst at a good speed.
- There's plenty of mods you can get to increase the aesthetics of the bike, or increase the power. In particular, i would recommend the Metrakit RK exhaust ( ebay ) - great upper powerband and increases top speed. Also, rim tape looks great.
- The bikes looks speaks for themselves. Its stunning.
- If you buy a newer model the brakes are among the best. Very strong and precise.
- The fuel consumption is pretty good.. i get about 55/60 to the gallon but to be honest i thrash the bike alot, hence if you were driving sensibly the fuel consumption would increase.
- The clutch is great for learning on - its pretty loose.
- In contrast with other 50cc's on the market, this is by far the best. Unlike scooters you won't get bored after 5 minutes!
Bad Points:
- The reliability is shocking. When i first bought my bike, the carb was ruined so i ended up buying a new 21mm carb ( uses more fuel, however it increases acceleration ). The bikes been in and out of the garage several times. Spark plugs and the electrics seem to be the worst problems for me. If your thinking about buying an RS50, keep in mind you almost certainly will have problems with it. If you want something just to run about in town and have no problems with buy a scooter.
- The bike often slips out of gear and you'll get a fright when it does happen ( the revs shoot up ). Also, it sometimes gets caught inbetween gears.. you've got to remember to give it a firm push up.
- If you buy a 2006 model and onwards, the exhaust has a catalytic converter inside it. This decreases the speed and acceleration as the gas has to go through the catalytic converter. However, if you do what i did and buy an aftermarket exhaust, you'll eliminate this problem.
- If your planning on going on long runs then comfort isn't brilliant. After being on the bike for a couple of hours you'll get pretty restless and when you get off, your knees/wrists will feel pretty strained.
- The sound isn't brilliant, however if you buy a sports exhaust it sounds slightly better. Also, air filters make it sound a bit more meaty.

Advantages: Incredible power for such a tiny engine, amazing handling Disadvantages: Comfort and practicality are nothing to boast about
The 2007 RS50 was, at first sight, a bit of a disappointment. After all of the reviews I had read on the internet about the 2006 model, I expected the new one to be perfect in every way. Maybe it was all of this hype about the bike that led to my initial disappointments with the bike. When I first saw it, I couldn't help but notice just how cheap the plastic looks - and those flames. The seat is horrible, after a couple of hours of sitting on it ... ...think about is whether your arse is going to have to be amputated afterwards. I've never been brave enough to try sitting on the back seat, but just the sight of it frightens me enough to make it completely useless. The seats on previous models look fairly comfortable, I suppose it's the fact that the Derbi GPR50 is now identical in every way aside from the badge and those lovely flames. For #2500 you would expect better than the shoddy fairing and ...

The Aprilia RS50 is a highly desirable bike for the young novice motorcyclist and provides a great sense of freedom to the teenager looking to get about. Hopefully I will be able to give you a good idea of what you can expect from this bike.
Performance
Most speed-crazed teenagers leap at the bold claims of high top speeds and amazing performance and buy one. The rs50 IS fast "for a fifty". However, that does not mean it is fast. Nippy enough to ... ...for a 50, but we're talking 60mph absolute tops with a race exhaust on pre-2003 models on the straight and flat. the later models have a larger carb and bigger exhaust port, which with upped gearing will do a genuine 65mph on the flat with a following wind.
The gearbox is very close ratio and the powerband is fairly narrow which means a good tap dancing session with the foot lever before you see over 50mph on the clocks. 98' bikes are notorious ...

Advantages: good looking, well fast! Disadvantages: sounds like a wasp and drops out of gear
My search for a new bike started when I turned 16 and was looking for a bike rather than a scooter like all of my friends. It took me aprox 6 weeks to find my perfect bike but when I did I fell in love. If you want to learn to ride a bike then I would recommend that this or its big brother the rs125 is the BEST bike to learn on. The clutch is like a feather, (you barely know that you're holding it) and actually releasing the clutch itself, as it ... ...if you slip and let it out a bit fast you wont end up on your ass. The ride itself is not a very smooth one and after a while your wrist, shoulders and back can start to hurt but you'll soon forget about this (if you have a de-restricted model) ounce you open it up. It's hardly has the accl of an R1 but I've driver many 50cc mopeds but this has to top them all, it's phenomenal!
My bike had a top end of about 60-65mph but if I were to put a sports ...

Advantages: Good mpg, Stylish , A real head turner, 80 mph de-resricted Disadvantages: slips out of gear sometimes, Hard to find parts
Hi i am writing this review from first hand experiance with this great 50cc motorbike.
The Bike Itself !!
The bike offers alot more than your average scooter reaching top speeds of 80 mph if derestricted which realy turns heads. The fun I have had taking over my friends on there scooters. The bike has wicked ecceleration and can quiet easily pull a wheelie at the lights or wheel spins on gravel.
The syle of the bike is an exact copy of a bigger ... ...is the only letdown on its design. The handling of the bike is exellent its all so smooth changing gear, breaking and turning. You could ride tyhe rs50 for hours and not become unconfortable as it has realy confy seat and the peddles are set up just right and can be finely adjusted.
If the rs50 does break down or has a little smash then parts can be hard to find and can be expensive. This is due to it being an italian bike.
After buying my rs50 ...

Advantages: High top speed and aceleration Disadvantages: Expensive to repair
The motorhispania RX50 is a very fast and reliable motorbike. It is a manual 6 gear bike, which allows quick aceleration and high top end speed for a 50cc engine and is legal to ride at 16.
Other bikes that are in the same league as the Motorhispania RX50 include, ApriliaRS50, Rieju RS2 Matrix, Yamaha TZR50, Derbi GPR50, and the Cagvia Mito 50.
What makes the Motorhispania apeal to me more and rise above the others, is that it is the biggest bike out of the lot, 9/10ths real size where as the others are only 8/10s. Also it is uncommon, unlike the ApriliaRS50 and so is classier to have while also not being hard to find and purchase like the Yamaha TZR50, and the Cagvia Mito 50 therefore having a smaller price tag.
The Derbi GPR50 is the slowest out of the lot, although can be fast when tuned up. The Rieju RS2 Matrix is ...
Advantages: great speed, handling and driver friendly Disadvantages: oil consumption. part prices and import delays.
ive been riding bikes since i was knee high, ranging from minimoto's to thumpstars to rev'n'go and geared scooters. i am now and have been for some time the proud owner of a mint condition 2006 apriliars125. coming from a bike-riding family i grew up with certain stereotypes, some more fact-based than others i.e chinese bikes ARE unreliable in the vast majority and so on so forth.
one stereotype bugs teenagers all around the globe, and that is , that the apriliars50 and rs125 respectively are unreliable and prone to going boom boom bang.
let me tell you this is simply not the case, the reason so many dealers, riders, and garages encounter blown up rs bikes is because theyre are generally bought by teenagers who have passed their test but dont fully appreciate the care and attention you have to bestow upon any bike, especially one ...
