About March 2006 I decided I would try for a back up credit card and went online to test the water so to speak. These days credit cards seem to spring up like weeds in a garden. There were very many cards I had never heard of all in a range of attractive colors, designs and shapes - and interest rates.
I had not heard of Aqua and had a bit of a read up where I found out that they are backed up by Halifax. They are also apparently good for people with a poor credit rating, earn a low income, or have had a court action for debt. They examine your details and if they allow you to have one of their cards they select a credit limit for you, this I believe is negotiable. It can be increased or decreased at a later date.
As I wanted it as a back up card, I was surprised to be offered a limit of £1300, but then I did have a good credit history.
The tricky bit is this APR business, I have never understood this for all I know it could stand for Auntie Pat's Roses, as I said it needs some investigation but it is 29.9%APR, and I discover that this is a higher rate of interest presumably because they have a lot of high risk customers - my guess anyway. While we are on this part, the accountant types might want to make a note that interest on purchases is charged at 0.79pence per day unless the outstanding balance is paid in full by the due date.
I have always thought that the best way to be successful with a credit card is not to use it but I am only a poor pensioner and I have found the staff very helpful on the telephone, statements are easy to read, and internet access easy, payments through your own bank online are easily set up.
As stated before the card is issued through Halifax PLC as Aqua Card Services, Pitreavie Business Park, Dunfermline, Fife.

I have found the statements easy to read, their telephone sales people are very helpful and any queries easily dealt with. So I think this credit card is definitely worth trying and to any unfortunate people refused a card elsewhere - try Aqua.

Quick review of Aqua Credit Card
as a whole the service is good.but when trying to get a new card im still waiting after 4 weeks, evry single person who answers the phone tells a different story .even resorting to lies claiming card sent by recorded delivery when this service is not supplied.the operators even cotadict each other about postal dates. ...
Advantages: No problems if you have a bad credit history, friendly staff. Disadvantages: Pounce on you if you go a penny over your limit, high interest rate.
...one of each. Thus far, Aqua have been fairly good. They gave me a card, asked no questions, and they seem to be trusting me with it. The APR is fairly high at 35% however it's still lower than Vanquis.
Card arrived very quickly, as did the pin and it was a sinch to set up over the phone with them. Direct debit payments can help ensure you never miss a payment date, and you can specify when you want the payment taken.
Problems, however, do occur ... ...by 35 pence, and suffered endless phone calls (4 a day) until I agreed to pay it by my debit card. I can understand if I were over by a long long way, but it seems it cost them more to chase me for it than it would to just have increased my direct debit by that amount. They also have some rather arcane rules regarding repayment. Minimum you can pay by card (unless they are chasing you!) is £5, and the maximum you can pay in 24 hours is £200. Which ...

Quick review of Aqua Credit Card
Extremely slow payment processing. While Barclaycard is clearing my balance in ONE day, Capital one in TWO days, aqua needs SEVEN days. No internet access. Staff is friendly but a bit incompentent. For intance: ask them, when to pay balance in full - not to pay a penny interest while using a card - you will discover new mathematics and end up with 2 + 2 = 5. Apart from that - I had no problems with using card abroad, currencies converting, and its a good MC card. ...

Quick review of Aqua Credit Card
I applied for a Aqua card in February 2008 which, unfortunately came when I had to go away in an emergency, subsequently the card and pin number were stolen. The theft was reported to both the card company and the police, the incident was never investigated properly and I have been made to feel as though i was the thief and penalised for the theft. I must say the only thing that I did wrong was go to university and incurr an adverse credit history. I am currently been harrassed for payments that are not mine, communication very poor, stripped of credit limit and also charged for late payments despite evidence that has been provided to prove my wereabouts. On the whole they should be reported!! HELP??? ...

Advantages: Easy to get, Builds credit rating Disadvantages: High APR
At first, i was declined for the card. After that, i got myself registered to Electorall and applied again after three months and got approved. The initial limit was £250.
At that time I only had three credit cards, HSBC, Barclaycard & CapitalOne. For some strange reason, HSBC was never on my credit report due a address glitch. So, £250 limit was ok for me because my credit score was only 354, very poor.
After 4 months, they increased the limit ... ...I always find their stuff helpful and polite. The only two disadvantages of the card is; 1. No Online Banking and 2. High APR.
Recently, they increased the APR to 34.9%, comparing to which, my interest is OK. This card helped me a lot to build my credit rating. Backed up by Halifax, this card is aimed for bad or poor credit people. ...

Advantages: Helps build credit history- Online account maintenance-Good customer service Disadvantages: Very high APR
My experience with Capital One has been really good till now. I did not have a creditcard and no credit score/rating in UK to assist me to fetch one. After being a secondary card holder for a while, I applied through my Bank for a CreditCard. But it was refused on the grounds that was NEVER revealed to me. Eventhough I tried to get in touch with the credit agencies to know the reason...but I was not convinced with their explanations.
In the mean time I happened to search the net for Creditcards that would help people with absolutely no credit history to built one. There are three cards CAPITAL ONE, AQUA & VANQUIS that I came across .
I applied with capitalone and auqa. The latter was rejected. But the first one was approved.
After reading some of the reviews online..one of which said that a security deposit of £200 needs to be ...
