I don't usually stick to one kind of toothpaste, tending to opt for the ones on special offer at the time. A few weeks ago, whilst doing my shopping online at Tesco, I noticed Aquafresh Extreme Clean Whitening 100ml reduced from £2.43 to £1.50. We'd never tried this one before so at that price I thought I'd give it a go.

The toothpaste comes in a tube with a screw top. I personally prefer the flip top lid because no-one in my family seems to know how to put the screw top back on the tube! In the traditional style of Aquafresh toothpaste this has the trademark 3 stripes in red for healthy gums, white for stronger teeth and blue for a fresh breath, although on looking at the toothpaste the blue in my mind is green! The Extreme Clean toothpaste has a micro-active formula which claims not only to clean your teeth thoroughly, whitening them through time, but also to deep clean your tongue getting into all the pores helping to rid your mouth of the millions of bacteria that just love to live on your tongue. This micro-active formula is supposed to make the toothpaste foam in your mouth whilst brushing therefore reaching the parts of your mouth which might otherwise be missed.

Applying a small amount of the paste to my toothbrush, about 1cm, I started to brush. The paste certainly did foam, so much so I felt like I had a mouth full of bubbles! I really enjoyed the strong minty taste this toothpaste had with, what I can only describe as a menthol flavour. I felt it not only cleaned my teeth but cleared my head as well. After brushing for approximately 4 minutes my mouth certainly felt fresh and really clean and my teeth felt smooth as well.

We have been using this toothpaste for a few weeks now and all are very pleased with its performance, although I can't say I have noticed it making any of my family's teeth any whiter. And I'm not really sure what it does to my tongue but it certainly feels tingly, fresh and clean after brushing.

Overall I would give this toothpaste 4 stars. I really liked the menthol minty flavour, however I didn't really like the way it foamed so much in my mouth. I also think that at full price it is rather expensive. Having said all that I would definitely buy this again if was on special offer but until then it's back to the cheaper brands!

This toothpaste should be used within 12 months after opening. We are also advised to brush twice daily to help maintain good oral health.

Hmmmm I’m not really a fan of foaming at the mouth I must admit!
