I’ve already written on a competitor’s version of one of these in another place and I was pretty impressed with it. Not the opinion mind, I was new to this game then and a bit of a churner. Things change and I’m much much better at this now. However, don’t expect fireworks, this is about a battery powered toothbrush and after all, there isn’t much you can say about them, is there?
I said things change. Well a few days ago, I went to do the pre-snog scrub and ‘click’; nothing happened. I clicked again, changed the batteries and still nothing happened. Brush dead. Two and a bit years of faithful service ended; its epitaph, a slow and methodical polish with the tiny static head before being consigned to its final resting place.
Salvation was found in Morrisons the other day. There on the shelf was the Aquafesh Duoclean, resplendent in its white and red livery, looking quite appealing. Even more appealing was its price - £3.99. I looked closely, I thought there must be a catch – most other battery powered brushes retail around £12 - £13 and the only ones which go for this price are the all–in-ones, i.e. those that have an integral head that you can’t change and have to discard when it goes all frayed and fluffy. Not this one, it has all the necessary changeable bits and other things besides. In the basket then and off home for consumer evaluation.
What sets this one apart from some of its more expensive counterparts is its clever design. Whereas my old one had distinct on and off buttons, the Duoclean’s are concealed under a flush-mounted flexible rubber cover. This means that there are no nooks and crannies around the buttons for toothpaste to cag up in. Likewise, the body is smoothly tapered, with no ridges or holes save for a few raised dots acting as a grip, to get messy. A definite plus point as any user of an electric or battery powered brush will doubtless agree that for some reason, your saliva glands work overtime when subject to the not-so-gentle ministrations of a vibrating head.
There’s more though, the brush head is in two parts: At the tip is the counter-rotating powered head, about one cm in diameter. This oscillates at a speed which I’ve not been able to ascertain as I threw the box away and the Aquafresh website (www.aquafresh.co.uk) holds no clues at all. In fact, it doesn’t even mention the brush! (Indeed, if you type in ‘Aquafresh Duoclean’ into google you actually get a no results return! Do I get a prize for that?). Behind the tip is a second un-powered head which slides minutely lengthways back and forth. This has bristles of two differing lengths but which for me, is nothing more than a gimmick. I can’t see any benefit whatsoever in it as to be of any use, you’d have to ‘brush’ with it and this kind of defeats the purpose of having an electric brush as you’re meant to basically hold the brush against your teeth and let it do the work for you. It’s also a tad uncomfortable and a little difficult to get used to.
The brush itself is angled slightly and has to be turned and clicked into place rather than just pushed in. It has 5 slits and holes in which will need cleaning out regularly so as to avoid the spindle fouling up. As I’ve only had it a few days, I can’t say whether there will be any chance of residue running back into the body of the brush to foul up the drive spindle as it did in my last one. A cocktail stick usually worked in freeing it up and this had the added benefit of prolonging battery life by no small degree as the resistance caused by the dried up toothpaste around the spindle was surprisingly power draining.
The two AA batteries (supplied – decent alkaline ones, too) are concealed in the base and are reached by means of pressing down on a button concealed beneath another rubber cover and pulling off the base. This is a bit hard to do, you’ll need nails and if you’ve got them you’ll probably end up breaking them. So gentlemen, to avoid that bedtime induced snapped-nail anguish, do the honours for your lady and wedge your own ones in for her. After all, a carelessly raked hangnail can be most uncomfortable at three o’clock in the morning.
It doesn’t feel quite so chunky as the more expensive ones, which you’d probably expect and as such is a bit of a rattler. Not too intrusive though and unless you’ve a well sound-proofed bathroom, you will almost certainly get some inquiring stares and be the butt of a few japes from uninformed guests should you have any staying.
As for whether it’s actually fit for purpose as a toothbrush, it’s too early to say. It certainly leaves my mouth feeling clean and fresh and I would imagine it’s no less efficient than its more expensive counterparts in that department. But I’m not going to quibble, at £3.99 and about a pound less for two replacement heads, it’s darned good value and should be around on the windowsill for some time to come.
Advantages: Aids correct brushing. Disadvantages: None for me.
...My favourite toothbrush is now AQUAFRESH FLEX TOOTH & TONGUE
Since discovering this useful hygiene aid, I realise what I was doing wrong when cleaning my teeth. My dentist kept telling me to brush them more often and more thoroughly to improve my oral hygiene and therefore give better protection to my gums. I now believe I was trying too hard, or rather brushing too hard.
Brushing too hard can damage teeth as well as gums. After using the Aquafresh ... ...The first Aquafresh Flex toothbrush was developed many years ago now, but the company has continued to try to improve the design further, and the Aquafresh Flex Tooth and Tongue is their most up to update manual toothbrush. The thing that I like most about all Aquafresh toothbrushes is the flexible neck that bends to absorb excess pressure and reduces the risk of damage to gums. The combination of flexible rubber, which is made easier to grip because ...

...£6. My eye caught the Aquafresh brush. I picked it up and knew this was the one I should purchase. My brush cost me under £2 but I think it was on offer. Its normally about £3.
The Aquafresh brush is fairly simple. Its a good price and it has some comfort improving gadgets. It also looks quite nice too!!!

I found the brush to be very comfortable to use. I've had it for about a month so far and its almost as good as new. The bristles are still upright and it feels nice to brush with. It cleans nicely and the bristles although feeling soft are ridgid enough to get all the hangover scum of your teeth. My teeth feel very fresh after brushinga and although its also down to the toothpaste its the brush that helps get ...

...two AA alkaline batteries which aquafresh claim should only need replacing every two months. The brush is pretty much the same as any normal electric toothbrush only cheaper. ...how my recent change to Aquafresh electric toothbrush as been. It’s a very good toothbrush, got a small but head and reaches the parts my other toothbrush didn’t. Although, I wasn’t that keen on battery powered as I thought I would be changing them all the time, it hasn’t been that bad. You do need 2 AA alkaline batteries.

The Aquafresh electric toothbrush costs about £13.99 and comes with complete instruction but trust me it won’t take a genius to find how it works. I used to think that an electric toothbrush would be harsh on my teeth but it’s not. At first yout teeth may tickle but you’ll ...

...It also has the classic Aquafresh flexible head which is meant to be softer on your gums. As the price goes it was about the price you would expect to pay for an electric toothbrush. I purchased it from Superdrug at a respectable price of £17.99. I believe that the replacement heads are just under five pounds for 2 heads, which is a very good price compared to the Braun replacement heads, so be weary.
I totally recommend this product for anyone ...

Advantages: Good cleaning action, bendy neck, made my teeth feel healthy Disadvantages: Packaging almost impossible to open, difficult to clean the back of the tongue
To me, buying a new toothbrush is similar to having new shoes, a new keyboard or a new vegetable knife, in that they can take a little bit of getting used to.
Thinking it was about time I replaced my toothbrush, I studied a few in Sainsburys and the Aquafresh Extreme Tooth & Tongue brush caught my eye. I was particularly attracted to the claims on the rear of the pack that it is supposed to remove 5 times more bacteria than other toothbrushes, and I liked the idea of a flexible neck (flexible neck on the brush, I mean!). The brush apparently contains silver ions, which are said to help prevent bacterial growth.
My trusty old toothbrush suitably binned, I grappled with trying to open the security-welded pack so I could test out my newbie Aquafresh purchase. Because I was finding the pack extremely difficult and frustrating to ...
Advantages: It cleans your tongue as well as your teeth! Disadvantages: If you put it too far back on your tongue it can make you want to throw up!
If you hadn?t already guessed, I am a bit of a gadget gal and if there is something new out to try then I will want to try it!
It was a couple of weeks ago I was watching TV at a mates house when an advert for a new toothbrush came on, usually I just ignore these sort of adverts, but this one caught my attention as it was for a toothbrush made by Aquafresh called Flexi Tooth & Tongue. This is a toothbrush, which cleans your tongue as well as your teeth! ?Fantastic? I thought ?I?m gonna have to get one of those!?
So on my next trip to Boots I remembered about the toothbrush and found it and bought it, well actually I bought two and some toothpaste as Boots currently have an offer of 3 for the price of 2 on various dental products.

I remember seeing the advertisement for this toothbrush some time ago and thought.....just another gimmick that probably wouldnt live up to its name!
The next time I saw it was in my sons bathroom, he told me he had been using it for some time and it was pretty good compared to the ordinary toothbrushes he normaly uses.
So I decided to buy one and give it a try.
The Aquafresh Flex Tooth & Tongue Toothbrush and Tongue Cleaner claims to remove 5 times more bacteria than normal tooth brushing.
It comes in the style of an ordinary toothbrush with a rubber grip handle and flexi neck .
