fluval 204 canister filter
Advantages: cheap, sturdy Disadvantages: hose connection, expensive media
This canister external filter has been on the market for few years now, replacing the old 203.
Very cheap to buy and the quality of the unit is very good.
the main pump is located in the lid and the impeller is easily replaced if in need of a new one.( after 2 years the original one is still going well)
the hose connection are a little bit down on quality.
it's a bit complicater to screw in the hose pipe and you need a certain degree of patience, ...

Fluval 304 canister filter
Advantages: easy to use Disadvantages: does not aireate water. Kills fish. you need another pump
Hi,
3 weeks ago i fitted a Fluval 304 canister filter to my 240 litre tank.
I added all my old media and there were no cycle problems what so ever. This morning all my discus and angels were dead!!!!!!
I was told by a different pet shop that the Fluval external filter is a water pump NOT an aireator and the Oxygen level was at 2.
My fish died of suffercation! no where in the book does it say you need an extra pump and i am running this filter ... ...stone and pump in the tank now and the oxygen levels are normal.
Please be aware of this. We are gutted about our fish and heart broken that this is not made clear in the book or known by people who sell it!!
As far as we are concerned, Fluval 304 killed our fish. ...

fighting infection
Advantages: fights infection Disadvantages: none
Fish are not like cats or dogs as pets, by the time you realise your fish has something wrong with him it is usually too late, unfortunately any bacterial infection in your tank will spread very quickly to your other fish but there is a treatment you can use to help with this.
No9 anti internal bacteria is fantastic in fighting bacterial infections in your water such as gill rot, dropsey, ulcers and septicaemia.
The second you notice something ... ...water will help to treat that fish aswell as any others infected but will also controll the spread of infection to healthy fish.
This is realy easy to use as you get a dropper with the bottle when you buy it, all you need to do is work out how much water is in your tank and add 1ml of this solution for every 5 liters of water you have, i buy mine in bottles of 100ml which is enough to treat 500 liters of water and costs me £3,99, it does make your ...

3plus, Plus What?
Advantages: efficient and quiet Disadvantages: none except the dirt
So having this week moved the old school tank in to my house there is now plenty of scope for another round of aquarium equipment reviews, the first of the new items under the spotlight is the Fluvial 3 (plus) internal filter - this replaced the Fluvial 3 several years ago.
Being as it is a plain black cubiod shape there is little about it that will spoil the look of your aquascape, mine is hidden behind a few plastic aquagarden plants, which being ... ...gently constantly. It has a blue water flow adjuster, which will cause the flow to vary between the 540 ltr/hr stated above and 700 ltr/hr which in a tank which has a volume of just under 140 litres means that the water is flitered 4.5 times every hour! But importantly this doesnt seem to create too strong a current within the aquarium so the fish arent constantly swimming against a current.
The outlet can be moved through around 80degrees so that ...

Whats blue and protects your fish?
Advantages: helps to make potentially dangerous water safe Disadvantages: none that i know of
Just one more fishy themed review for the time being, this is another product I whole heartedly recommend that anyone keeping fish should have on hand. As we all know the tap water in the UK is safe for us to drink, but has several chemical additives as well as traces of the metals used in the pipes, among these are chlorine and metal ions, these while harmless to humans and large pets -cats, dogs etc - are not so good for fish in fact can kill them.
... ...for aquaria to stand for a minium of 24 hours sometimes this just isnt practical so what else can you do? There are a number of similar products on the market designed to neutralise the dangerous traces in the water. This one is the one I have in my cupboard of fish keeping spares, it claims to have ingredients which help to protect the gills of your fish, also to protect fish from wounds and scrapes (as can be caused by boisterous behaviour around ...
