The doctor advised a combination of calamine cream, antihistemine medicine and calpol, so once we had procured all of these goodies, we were ready to tackle this ailment.
The cream did in fact prove to be worth its weight in gold!!
**The Packaging**
The cream comes in a small white 100ml tub, and once the seal is broken, the lid can be lifted off easily. All of the instructions and ingredients are clearly stated on the tub.
**The Cream**
Open the lid to reveal the cream which has a slightly pinkish tinge with a slightly chalky smell although this is obvious only if you really have a good sniff of the cream.
To use the cream, all that is necessary is a finger in the tub, to scoop out the required amount of cream, and then apply it liberally to the affected area.
The product is quite thick but is also very easy to absorb, and quite creamy, and although it does contain zinc, it is not at all chalky, and doesn't leave any white residue.
It is recommended that the cream is used to provide relief from sunburn and other minor skin irritations, chicken pox being one of these skin irritations, although from where I was standing, there was nothing mild about it!
**Price and Availability**
We bought this from Asda, costing £1.39 for 100ml, which is good value, considering the effectiveness of the product.
It is available from all major supermarkets and from chemists.
**What I thought**
We used this product, on the doctor's advice, to alleviate the itching caused by chicken pox. After bathing and thoroughly drying the infected small lady, we applied it liberally as stated and it did appear to have an almost immediate cooling effect. The cream was easily absorbed and unlike the calamine lotion, which I had previously used, there was no dry chalky residue. I did like this about the product, the fact that there were no dry pink patches left after use, and it really did seem to help with the itching, without stinging her at all.
The cream is reasonably priced and the 100ml tub was actually enough to treat her for the duration of the spots and the itchiness, so money very well spent.
I have since been using it as a hand cream, and because it contains glycerin, it seems to have a very softening effect without being drying or difficult to rub into my skin, although it does have a very very slight astringent feeling when first applied
I would imagine that it is an excellent product to take on holiday for any type of sunburn, because of its obvious cooling effect, and because it doesn't require much rubbing into the skin for full absorbtion, there would be no discomfort.
Another great thing about the cream is that there are not lots and lots of scary warnings. The only thing it suggests is that it should be kept away from children, and not used if you are sensitive to phenoxyethanol or any of the ingredients.
It does actually state that there are no known side effects associated with the product, so it can be used with complete peace of mind.
So, the chicken pox ran its course, and I have bought another tub of this cream, mainly just to have in case of dry skin or any other itchy bits!
A great product and one which I would recommend anyone to have in their medicine box/cabinet, because even if you don't use it immediately, it has a long shelf life…this cream expires in 2008!
Advantages: Non perfumed, good for sensitive skin Disadvantages: Very hard to rub in, messy when used as a soap replacement

~~~What is Aqueous Cream?~~~
Aqueous cream is a light, supposedly non-greasy moisturiser that leaves an oily film over the skin to prevent moisture loss. It's made from a mixture of emulsifying ointment (which contains paraffin oils) and water with a antimicrobial preservative to help keep it fresh and bug free.
Advantages: It moisturises and smoothens Disadvantages: none
I was introduced to Aqueous Cream after a visit to the Doctor. Few years ago, when my daughter was few weeks old, I noticed dry skin patches on several parts of her body. I was not sure what it was. Since she was my first child and a baby I was very concerned about it. I made an appointment to see the local GP. I was told it was mild eczema. She was given Aqueous Cream. She is older now but she still has the mild eczema. Which is not bad as before. ... ...years time.
What is Aqueous Cream ?
This is a relatively non-greasy cream compared to other creams or ointments used for eczema. The cream is quickly absorbed by the skin. It is white cream and unperfumed.
The cream can be used for many different purposes, in the bath instead of soap, soothing cream, an emollient, It is very good for people with dry skin. It is a good moisturiser under make-up and can be used if you have sun burn, it is soothing. ...
...no difference.
However, with the Aqueous cream we noticed a difference straight away. The skin softened up and began to become smooth and regular. The cracks dissappeared and now we have a perfect baby with perfect Skin. All of this happened less than a week after we started using it. Some caution should be issued though. This is claimed to be due to the use of preservatives in the cream that give it the shelf life. However, we were lucky and Kami is fine with it.
Other Uses?
Its not only for flakey babies! It can also be used in the adult world as a cure for chapped or dry skin. Handy in the winter when the wind is up and stripping the moisture from your face.
For the guys out there you can use it during and after shaving as it helps to remoisturise ...
Advantages: Starts working immediately Disadvantages: Horrible mustard colour can stain clothing and skin
My 18 month old daughter is forever getting nappy rash even though I use barrier creams such as Sudocream. The slightest thing will set nappy rash off. Teething, a cough or cold, change of diet, nappy being left on too long, nappy too tight or loose, etc. I tried everything including Fuller Earth Cream and Aqueouscream but nothing worked until I discovered Metanium.
It comes in one size which is a 30mg tube. I know this doesn't sound a lot but it only costs ₤3.30 from Boots and it lasts me approx six months.
Application is easy. Just make sure babies bum is nice and clean and dry then just apply a pea sized amount to the effected area, making sure to rub it in as you should still be able to see babies bum through the cream.
It's a miracle cream as far as I'm concerned as I'd tried loads of cream and ointments all of which ...
the cream. Apply sparingly, a little goes a long way.
However, in most cases will improve the appearance of your nappy rash in just a few hours and has cleared it up in just one day.
So the active ingredients are
Titanium dioxide, titanium peroxide, titanium salicylate, which in combination keep your baby's skin dry and takes the sting away from the soreness.
Advantages
Keeps baby's skin dry and takes away the sting
Works better than any other cream I have tried, drapolene, sudocrem, aqueouscream, boots nappy rash cream
Disadvantages
Mustard yellow, can stain clothes
Can be difficult to apply, especially if skin is weepy, in that case leave off nappy until dry and then apply
Not an everyday cream, sudocrem will keep nappy rash at bay, is cheaper, smells nice and won't stain
Overall
Wonderful magic cream for severe ...
Advantages: It works, simple to use Disadvantages: None
My youngest daughter was diagnosed with atopic eczema when she was 2 1/2 months old. It started with a small rash on her chest, and over the next few months, it developed so much, that it virtually covered her body.
Our GP said to use baby lotion (?!) on the original rash. Needless to say, this did not help at all. When it worsened, we went back and this time he suggested trying E45 cream and then aqueouscream. Again, these had very little effect, as did various bath oils such as Oilatum, which we also tried.
By now, the eczema was very bad. At its worst, her legs were weeping because of infection. Her face was terrible. One day, there would be the rash. Then, the next day her cheeks would weep with fluid, and then finally crust over. This would drop off, and the whole cycle would start again.
As a last resort, our GP ...
