The Past Masters series is without doubt an invaluable introduction to the thought and writing of the great philosophers of history. This volume is no exception. Kenny writes with exceptional clarity and summarises extremely complicated arguments in a most useful way. The three chapters deal with Aquinas' life and thought. The first gives a brief biography and provides a valuable context into which to fit the rest of the book. Aquinas' development of his ideas can be seen very clearly when one considers the different times and situations in which he wrote his various works. The two chapters devoted to Aquinas' (broadly Aristotelian) philosophy serve as a concise introduction to his most important views. They are well supplemented by reading the Past Master volume on Aristotle, but stand in themselves as a good way in to this technical writing. Well worth reading.
