Whereas Bacardi and Vodka lend themselves to a pairing with fruit juice, being not exactly full of taste, Archers has a naturally strong fruit flavour, being peach schnapps. My flatmate isn’t on Ciao. She doesn’t understand why I spend as much time on here as I do, or why I feel the need to travel hundreds of miles to have a beer with a bunch of complete strangers. When I have a challenge, though, she finds it easy to get involved. By “get involved”, I mean “takes the piss”. And the more distasteful she thinks I will find the product under consideration, the more “involved” she gets. And when I told her I’d been challenged by BigYummyAngel to review Archer’s Aqua Peach, she was more “involved” than ever! Rolling on the floor "involving" her ass off, as I believe is the current phrasing.
Archers made quite a late foray into the world of Alco pops, being soundly beaten by Bacardi and their Breezers and only just getting in ahead of Bailey's, not a natural contender for an Alco pop style drink in my eyes. Even Gordon's, a brand which I never anticipated as having youth (or, rather, young adult) appeal, being my mother's tipple of choice, beat them to it. And, despite already having a fruit flavoured spirit to their name, several fruit juice and vodka based drinks from companies you'd never heard of were also in the market ahead of Archers.
The problem could have been the Archers itself. Whereas Bacardi and Vodka lend themselves to a pairing with fruit juice, being not exactly full of taste, Archers has a naturally strong fruit flavour, being peach schnapps. Ensuring this didn't overpower any of the other fruit flavourings would be quite a task, especially as no new Alco pop could hit the market with just a single flavour, given the range of Bacardi Breezers and WKD already there. This, I suspect, is the reason you don't see Malibu Alco pops. And, let's face it, peach isn't really the first one you think of when asked to name a fruit!
The bottles take the standard Archers branding - with a plastic covering trying to give that frosted glass appearance. A coloured band around the top denotes the flavour, although I would suggest caution if buying for the first time, as there is some similarity between both peach and orange and between cranberry and raspberry, which could result in you grabbing the wrong one in a hurry. If this is the case, go for the lime one, as that will avoid any mistakes!
I didn't have that option, though, as the peach flavour was the one that came off the shelf and into my hand. Once home, I couldn't wait to break into the bottle and give it the taste test.* Once into the bottle, there's a welcoming peach smell, which is only to be expected, with it being peach flavoured.
The first taste is a not entirely unpleasant experience. I quite like peach as a flavour, but this is a lot sweeter than I expected. It's been a while since I tried a peach, but memory recalls it having a slight edge. There doesn't seem to be any of that here, although there is eventually a slight bitterness in the aftertaste, but that's not immediately evident. Of course, I'm not much of a fan of sweet things, which could affect my taste buds. So a second opinion is required and flatmate, when she can be persuaded to stop laughing at the sight of the bottle in my hand, has a taste. She didn't think it was overly sweet, even going so far to say that it's less sweet than an Archers and lemonade would be.
Once you've got used to the taste, though, it does slip down fairly quickly. It's not a particularly gassy drink, so it doesn't leave you feeling too bloated. That said, the bottles (yes, I bought two for the sake of research and I have drunk both!) were sitting in my fridge for a while before I plucked up the courage to open them, so it may be that a fresher bottle would be more gassy. The bitterness and acidity of the aftertaste is very slight, so there is a tendency to keep drinking.
I'm by no means an expert at guessing ingredients and there are none printed on the bottle, but I suspect that all that goes into a bottle of Archer's Aqua Peach is a shot and a half of archers topped up with soda water. I suspect the same flavour could be obtained far more cheaply by mixing a peach cordial with tap water. Admittedly, that wouldn't get you drunk but, at 5% alcohol by volume, Archer's Aqua is going to take its time getting you drunk anyway. However, for people with a sweeter tooth or who are more of a fan of peach than I am, it is something you could probably drink all night without it becoming too sickly. The two bottles I had was really my limit, though.
And at what cost? Well, my 275ml bottle from my local off licence set me back £1.40. Sainsbury's are advertising 4 bottles of the same size for £4.99, while Tesco currently have an offer of 5 275ml bottles for £6.00 for any flavour or a 4 pack of 275ml bottles at £3.99, although their normal price for these would be £4.79. Tesco also offer a 70cl (700ml) bottle for £2.48. In a pub or club, I suspect this would be priced up into the stratosphere along with most Alco pops, so expect to be paying anything from £2.00 upwards for a bottle.
If you're going to be drinking something like Archers anyway, then dive straight in, as the taste experience will be what you're used to. For a bitter drinker like myself, it's too sweet and for those used to a different fruit flavour, peach is a bit of an acquired taste, really. Indeed, apart from the novelty of having a peach flavoured Alco pop, there's very little to recommend this drink. It's not one I'll be trying again and, of the drinks I've been challenged to write about, I have to express a slight preference for the Babycham, to be honest.
The label states that there is 1.5 units of alcohol in a single 275ml bottle. As a final disclaimer, please remember that this is an alcoholic drink, and so shouldn't be partaken of if you intend to drive, or by anyone under the age of 18.
Advantages: Light and refreshing (and alcoholic!) Disadvantages: Too moreish (and alcoholic!)
...well!
The Bottle
----------------
Archers Aqua Peach is a 'Sparkling blend of Archers Schnapps with the crisp taste of Peach'. The alcohol content is 5%. It's produced and bottled for the Archers Scnapps Company in London. (address printed on the bottle) One 70cl bottle contains3.5 UK units and has the '18' in a triangle to show the age limit. The bottle is pictured below so I will not decribe it in detail, apart from the fact that the plastic ... ...fruity intense peach flavour of Archers Peach Schnapps, you will find that this has a more refreshing feel about it as though it's been mixed with sparkling spring water. There are no ingredients listed on the bottle or on the Archers website, so I can not confirm what the 'blend' actually is.
It is a more refreshing drink than Archers mixed with lemonade. On taking the first swig, you get 'hit' of peach at the back of the tongue and throat which ...

...last time that happened) but Archers Aqua Peach being my choice of drink.. I have at some time over the years drunk most brands of alcopop, bacardi breezers, WKD but usually return to the one that I prefer Archers Aqua. ~Why Archers?~

...My latest purchase is Archers Aqua Peach. I’d noticed this one before, but until recently I’d not actually bothered to try it…Silly me! The packaging is pretty standard as with most similar products, this comes in a 275ml bottle and can be brought singly or in packs of four. The flavour of this drink is very similar to drinking an Archers and lemonade, but perhaps with a little less fizz and a little more of the taste of peaches. A smooth, silky peachy flavour which goes down very well. It’s a very drink to drink, and one which (as with most alcopops) ...

Advantages: Great taste and aroma, good quality liquor. Disadvantages: Cheaper alternatives
Archers Peach Schnapps is a 21% liquor with a strong peach flavour and aroma. The drink itself is clear in colour and presented in a standard clouded glass bottle, usually sold in 70cl and 1 litre bottles in all mainstream supermarkets and many smaller off licenses. While not popularly drunk on its own like many other liquors such as 'scotch on the rocks', this fruity liquor is best tasted with a mixture of both alcohol, mixers and juices. This makes ... ...most popular drink however is Archers and Lemonade which almost all bar would sell. With lemonade being such a cheap mixer it makes it a cheaper drink for a night out. Compared to drinks such as Vodka and Redbull, the Redbull is an expensive drink as it is, yet its being mixed with another expensive liquor. While it can be drank through winter and other seasons it is most popular in the summer because of its fruity appeal. So what other alternatives ...

...is "a sparkling blend of archers schnapps with the crisp taste of peach". I think this is a fair description of the taste actually. I find you can drink this for a long time before you will begin to taste any alcohol, when you start drinking this I never taste the archers in it, only the peach. To me (I'm not an alcoholic or anything!), this tastes like a really pleasant soft drink, that I could dirnk for much of the day or at dinner. The peach is ... ...got the blend between the Archers and peach balanced very well. I love this, its much nicer than any other alcopops around.
The Effect
Obviously drinking alcohol will eventually have and affect on the drinker! I find that I can have atleast 3 glasses of the stuff (or 2.5 mini bottles) before I notice mysef get a bit giggly, and I only really drink once a week. However, the only time I was ever sick after drinking was after drinking Archers (this ...

Advantages: Cheaper to buy than a shot and a mixer, plus more quantity Disadvantages: sweet, horrid taste
A couple of weeks ago we were asked to relaunch a product called Archersaqua, the first time we ran it, it really made no impact on the nightclub scene. Much to my believes the product is still a non-seller.
The product
The drink is a mixture of Archers, carbonated water and a flavour. Be warned though- these drinks are incredibly sweet. They are basically popular drinks made with Archers and a mixture.
As with other Alco pops, these drinks contain about 5% alcohol, therefore it is not that strong and it will take quite a few to get yourself drunk, if you are an average drinker.
The Flavours
Peach- The peach flavour tastes exactly the same as drinking Archers and Lemonade! Basically it can be described as Archers and Lemonade disguised as ArchersAquaPeach.
Orange- this one has a refreshing taste to it, and it is hard to ...
Advantages: refreshing summer drink Disadvantages: limited flavours and availability
IN 2000 Guiness UDV who manufacture ArchersPeach Snapps noticed that sales of Archers were still declining. There had been a steady decline over the last three years with consumption notably falling among the core audience of 18-34 year old women.
In April 2001 they launched a new variant of its already popular peach snaaps brand to try and increase sales. They targetted this new drink at this core market, advertising mainly in fasion and womens magazines. The new variant was in the form of a ready mixed alcopop based on the popular fuity ArchersPeach Shnapps called ArchersAqua. They originally launched this drink in Peach flavour only. The new product was successful and by Christmas 2001 the drink was in the top 3 selling alcopops.
Alcopops come under the category of RTD – Ready to drink. When a company decides to ...

of other drinks per bottle. This may be because it is a limited edition variety, as normal bottles such as ArchersAquaPeach costs £1.30 a bottle. I did not see any bigger box sizes available such as in packs of 4 but this might be because it is the limited edition variety! In Unwins when I dared to purchase another bottle (to see if my initial reaction was judged unfairly on what might have been a one-off fluke ) the cost of a single bottle was £1.30 which was the same as the other varieties available in the ArchersAqua variety!
