Advantages: Quality through and through Disadvantages: Leave your car at home!
...Being a bit of a king of univeristies having dropped out twice I finally settled on Leicester to study archaeology and was the best decsion I could have made.
The university is excellently postioned just outside of the city centre and is surrounded by the beautifully green Victoria Park, which was once the Racecourse many many years ago.
The campus is compact and has a friendly atmosphere, and has a variety of buildings, the architecturally acclaimed Engineering building, the old asylum now the univeristy offices, the 18 storey Attenborough Tower, with its fantastic paternoster and great views, and the downright ugly Charles Wilson (or the Chilly Willy ) building.
The student union has good bars, and a variety club nights, adequate shop and all the services you'd expect in a union building.
The library at Leicester is excellent...

Advantages: Location, varied degrees, fab library, different campuses with different vibes Disadvantages: Strand campus is like a rabbit warren, accomodation is pricey,
...the college well into the twenty first century, and even the areas in the main building which look a little dated have character!
The accomodation seems to be of a good standard, although Kings College Hall is notably one of the least favourite. Stamford street, Dover Street, Hampstead, Brian Creamer and Commonwealth are all places I have heard good things about. The college accomodation is expensive but this is a reflection of London living in general and if you end up at Stamford streer or Commonwealth hall then the location means most things are within walking distance so no expensive or boring tube journeys!!
The outside of the main strand campus looks like a carpark, some very nice 60's chic concrete architecture to thank for that one! but the reception is modern and if you go to engineering department it seems to be 2060 well at least...

Advantages: Nice campus, both students and lecturers are improving. Disadvantages: Not world class in all areas yet.
...While Nottingham is rapidly gaining respect as a centre of excellence, do remember that as far as potential employers are concerned (especially overseas)there really is no comparison with Oxbridge. The supremacy of Oxbridge has been embedded deep into the English speaking world's subconcious for centuries. Do not forget that it has produced or nurtured the majority of Britain's and alot of the world's most esteemed statesmen, writers, industrialists, scientists and engineers. Until we have a truly meritocratic society that takes its education through a bolstered Open University via the internet, it is unlikely that the old prestige of Oxbridge will be lost to any other universities.
While the campus is pleasant, there is again no comparison with the magnificent architecture that adorns Oxbridge. You do not see hordes of Japanese...

Advantages: One only - Bradford is cheap. Disadvantages: Many, read opinions.
...Having been temporarily a student at Bradford University, I can assure you it's not a nice place to go to. I manage to get a transfer out, but I was lucky. Bradford itself is a fairly quiet city, with an awful architecture and planning. The University of Bradford is a bottom of the class University except for the Peace Studies Department and the Management Centre based degrees. Even so, the Peace Studies department was under threat of being extinct as they could not get funding and the Management Centre is trying to become an independent educational institution. It has a small library, a computer centre that simply does not work (they had their servers hacked recently, this shows how the professionals are) and a Sports Centre that is very poor.
My experience was with the Civil and Environmental Engineering department. Once a good...

My son is Thomas the Tank Engine mad and wanted more or less every Thomas thing he could find for Christmas. You name it, he wanted it! So I knew he would be happy with what ever we decided to get him. We considered the various Thomas sets, as all... more
This is where it all started. The starter set was my son's first exposure to Thomas the Tank Engine - First things first - there are at least 5 different styles of Thomas toys - none which interact with each other so sticking to 1 type would be... more
