If you are an i-pod loyal looking for a new video device than look elsewhere, but for those seeking an alternative look no further. The Archos605 provides a worthy alternative to the I-pod video, although it suffers from a less ergonomic design and is heavier due in part to the hard drive. However where it does better the ipod is it's durability with a rugged case and strong solid build quality feel to the buttons it will be hard to break.
The large screen makes viewing a pleasure and the battery is capable, in my experience, of at least 5 hours solid video playback but i am yet to meet the claim of 17 hours music playback advertised with the unit averaging about 13-15 hours without recharge. The interface is simple and straight forward and should take a short period of time to familiarize yourself with. The memory is generous ...
Advantages: Great screen quality and size, built in speaker and stand. Disadvantages: The only downside is that it is fragile, and can be hard to get used to the on screen keyboard.

The first thing you may notice is the screen, it is a high resolution screen, 800x480 pixels, 4.3'' TFT LCD touch screen. It is an absolute crystal clear picture and watching movies or viewing pictures is so pleasing when you can see every last detail with out any blur or fuzziness. If watching videos is what you want from your portable device then Archos605 or any Archos is a good choice. It is also possible to buy a DVR Station from Archos or any technology shop or electrical retailer. This device allows you to record live TV be it Sky, Virgin media or terrestrial TV. You can then play the recorded items back on the TV through the DVR station ...

The archos605 is a very study but now outdated device in additon the latest software sometimes freeze during music playback. It is able to handle some divx files with certain compession formats without the need to buy the plugin.The Archos605 WiFi's video player is equally polished. It supports playback of MPEG-4, AVI, and WMV formats at up to 30 frames per second, covering most of the bases for common video files. You can buy optional plug-ins at £20 a pop for formats such as H.264 and MPEG-2/VOB files. Once you're actually playing video, you can bookmark, resize, and skip through your movie with ease.
As a device as a whole its not that impressive, buy the ipod touch it will last longer and is easier to use. ...
