I bought this on the day it was launched from QVC. QVC are great at including extras which tend to cost a lot more separately. I believe they should be included anyway ARCHOS people.
The Archos 605 is an MP4 player. You can listen to your mp3 music and also watch movies, look at photos and store documents. Movies can be recorded fom TV or DVDs. MP3s can be added by using Windows media player. Other files can be drag and dropped when attached to a pc.
In the box came the 605 which is built well, but not a shiny boys toy like the Series 4 ones, that was a little disappointing. It has an off white surround with white plastic navigation buttons. It also came with a usb cable, headphones, quick start guide, 2 stylii and earphones.
The extras I got were the docking station, needed to record the TV and DVDs. It is very good as it has connections to allow surround sound. Also included was a nifty litttle remote control to help record and use the internet.
I also got a travel battery pack which doubles the the operating time of the unit and allows connection to a TV or computer without the docking station.
The other extra I got was a web browserplug in. This is required to use the internet, it is Opera. A lttle fiddly but does the job.
The case is really cheap and not good for protection of the unit, buy a decent leater one. The stylii cannot be slotted into the unit, made as an after thought that some fingers may be too big to use the touch screen; the touch screen is great to use like on a PDA and the menu is okay and easy to get used to.
Included is a year's subscription to programme guided to freeview, sky and virgin. All you do is set up the unit to sync to your box and it will switch it on, change channels and record and stop for you. Once done this is easy to do as you just choose from guide what you want and press record, then forget about it.
Quality of video is great, better than on a PSP, photos also look good, sound is good but buy some better earphones.
Other plugins are available and later there are supposed to be extras like games and calenders.
Overall I am very pleased with this Archos. For best value buy from QVC otherwise buying all separately might cost an extra £50 - £100.
