I previously bought the Archos Jukebox and have had it for a few years. I had been really pleased with it, unfortunately it was not holding its charge as well and decided to upgrade.
I wasn't 100% sure about buying an AV700 because of the reviews I had read about it. I had read some reviews which pointed out some difficulty when transferring files. I must say I have not had any problems with transferring and files from my pc and in fact have found it very easy. Other problems which I have read about are the viewing screen quality. I have not had any problems with this myself but, I did spend quite a lot of time going through the manual to familiarise myself with the controls etc.
I had been so pleased with the products from them that I decided to go for it anyway and I am so glad that I did. The picture quality is fantastic, I would suggest reading as much of the manual as you can and spending the time to get to know all of the features. Believe me it will pay dividends in the future and help you to get the most out of the machine. Recording onto it is simple and although the quality is not to DVD standard it is still great.
The size of the screen is brilliant, especially after the Jukebox, but then for viewing films it does need to be a decent size. It makes viewing films more comfortable and reduces the strain on your eyes. It is fantastic to be able to record television and the playback facility is also a plus.
I have used my own earphones as I found them uncomfortable to wear. I would say though that I do have strange ears and there are not many earphones that I find comfortable. It was the same with my Archos Jukebox and so for me this was not a downside. This might be a problem for some people though, although you could use your favourite earphones.
Most shops will demonstrate the machine for you, I am very please with my purchase and I am only sorry that I didn't but the 100GB instead. I think I might upgrade at some point in the future.

Firstly, Welcome to Ciao. A fair review although I would have liked to have read a little more about equipment what it does and how you handle it and for it to capture my attention enough to want to buy it. Sorry I cant rate you higher the reason is as I have said above. When I write a review I imagine that readers know absolutely nothing about the place you visited, the book you read, the equipment you bought, the film you saw or the album you heard and so I give a little more information about the background, what the machine is like to use, where the place is, what it is, who it is, what it sounds like what it looks like everything I can think possible would be of interest. Also a personal input about how you felt there what things interested you what made an impression on you. DO drop me a message in my guest book if you do expand it more so I can come back and re-rate you. I am not intending to sound critical just trying to be helpful after all I was once a newbie myself.
