Reason: I have got a MSI K7T266Pro2 motherboard that only offer USB1.1 ports (1.5Mbytes/s maximum transfer rate). Before you buy a USB2.0 PCI card, make sure that your motherboard got version 2.2 PCI slots which are USB2.0 compatible. If your motherboard hasn't got version 2.2 PCI slots or higher, don't bother. You need a motherboard upgrade.
Also, your operating system needs to be windows 2000 service pack 4 or windows XP which provides appropriate drivers to support USB2.0. For the other operation systems such as windows 98 or ME, you will need to contact your motherboard or PCI/PC card manufacturer for firmware upgrade or driver software support. For linux systems, please visit http://www.linux-usb.org for the driver.
This card comes with a mini-CD containing the appropriate driver and a brief installation manual. If you want more information about the card and its driver for various operating systems, you can check the latest update at www.archos.com and also download an electronic manual for easy keeping.
As a bonus, this card is driven by an NEC chip which mean the main component (at least) is manufactured by a well-known company = reliability. Just browse www.nec.com for more info of your chip.
Overall, this card is easy to install. Just open up the computer, put the card into a spare PCI slot and then install the driver.
