Archos QDisk Hard drive 250 GB

Advantages: FAST, RELIABLE, AND SECURE WITH LOADS OF SPACE.
Disadvantages: COMES WITH VERY SHORT USB CABLE.

...I purchased my Archos QDISK about 12 months ago from a well known TV Shopping Channel, since then its price has fallen somewhat. This portable hard drive requires no driver for Windows XP or Windows 2000/ME. You simply plug the USB cable into your PC and away you go, it acts just as your local hard drive in that it appears as a Hard Disk Drive with a drive letter when you go to "My Computer". You can store absolutely anything on this portable hard drive and it seems as though you never run out of space, I am yet to use half of the 60 Gigabytes because there are no operating system files etc. The QDISK is also great for laptop computer users as it can fit into a laptop case, depending on your case size. I have no gripes about this unit apart from the heat problems, but keep it cool, by not having it on constantly and you should be fine. Another thing is there is no on/off button which i find rather inpractical to have to keep unplugging it all the time ! When i brought this it was £180, but i am sure its alot cheaper now, if you just want something that will do the occassinal backup, its a good hard drive, if its more intense use check the link above.... ...The hard drive is meant to be used internally but I use mine as an external hard drive with an USB external enclosure. The drive might not be the fastest around but it is fast enough to use for those large files that makes life difficult. The fact that it uses SATA makes faster than IDE hard drives of the same size. The SATA also makes it very stable and up to date with the latest technology. I like the fact that you can buy it for such a low price as well. The only disadvantage I can think of is that when you damage the hard drive you won't be able to retrieve 250 GB of data. I hope this helps everyone who is thinking of buying one.... Read review
