The cooling of all PC components rests on that warm air is drawn out of the housing. As a rule the power unit cannot provide a good ventilation of the housing, without its' fan running at a high number of revolutions therewith causing much noise. An additional, temperature-controlled fan like the arctic fan Pro TC solves this problem. The power unit fan can substantially lower its speed and thereby work more quietly. The temperature control allows the arctic fan Pro TC to spin just at just the right speed as the heat dissipation of the PC requires. This not only lowers noise levels, but also increases the life span of the fan.
Advantages: Cheap, Effective, Lightweight. Disadvantages: No manual speed control, Size could be a problem on some boards.
...I recently upgraded my CPU to a retail version AMD 64, that comes with the standard cooler and fan. I found it to be very noisy and decided I needed a quieter CPU cooler. After looking at various options, and not having lots to spend, I decided on the ArcticCooling Silencer 64 Ultra TC that retails at under £10.00.
This heatsink is suitable for socket 754/939/940 AMD Athlon CPU's, BUT is 15mm wider than the standard heatsink, so make sure there is room on your motherboard before ordering one.
The box that the it comes in also contains a motherboard retention module, a tube of Artic cooling MX-1 High performance thermal compound, a case sticker and a small sheet of notes, that is printed in English and German. The fitting instructions are printed on the back of the box.
The cooler.
The heatsink itself is made of aluminum...

Advantages: Very cool, easy to install Disadvantages: copper on the cpu side far from mirror ( needs a polish )
...Test system:
processor - AMD Athlon FX62 (2 x 2800 MHz / 125W TDP)
motherboard - ASUS M2N32 DeLuxe Wireles Edition (passive cooling system with HeatPipe)
Cooler is very easy to install just one lever.
More experienced users will probably remove thermal compound and polish the surface of the cooler ( it is far from being a mirror ) and then apply high quality thermal compound.
This will give You another 1-2 C less and faster cooling down after stress.
all tests were done using Zalman STG 1 ( high quality thermal compound )

Advantages: Quieter, cooler, better looks, more stable PC, better for overclocking Disadvantages: May be tricky to install for begginers, large so you need biggish case
...temperature.. this is why the fan draws in the cool air at the front, that should have been drawn in from the outside of your case by a fan.
There are many interesting features of this cooler such as the way the fan is attached, using rubber mountings so that vibration is next to impossible. The air is drawn in from the side of fans, which means it also benifits components around the CPU.
All in all this HSF is about as close to perfect as you can get, and once installed will make your PC run cooler and look cooler, be more stable, sound much quieter and even run faster if you choose to overclock your system using this.

I bought this cooler the other day on Amazon and it arrived today, thankfully 20 minutes after my new cpu did.
The first thing that struck me was that the fan is positioned to the side of the heatsink rather than on top of it. Thus blowing hot air... more
