...a DVD or convert a video which would have been impossible previously on a single core CPU.
The E6600 works at 2.4GHZ out of the box but with the right Motherboard and cooling can be easily pushed past 3GHZ and with water cooling up to 4GHZ. For a Motherboard for overclocking i would recommend the Asus P5B series and for cooling the ArcticFreezer 7 Pro is a great and cheap choice.
With a ArcticFreezer 7 Pro I get idle temps of 35 degrees C and under full load up to 45 degrees C
This is probably this CPUs weakest aspect as the recently released range of Core 2 Duos the E6*50 range are cheaper and faster than the E6*00 range. At the moment the E6600 can be purchased for around £140 whereas the E6750 which is slightly faster can be picked up for around £120. The only downside to these new range of Intel...

The low speed 80 mm fan reduces the noise level to a minimum. The patented fan holder is able to practically eliminate the typical buzzing sound of 80mm fans. The Heat Pipes with expanded diameter are able to transfer heat up to 200 Watt. The heat exchanger is built of 40 fins and consists of a surface area of over 5000 cm2 and allows for resistance free energy transfer to air. In the high performance range of coolers, this cooler count as featherweights with less than 500 gr, which avoids mainboard socket problems. The cooler is to install without any tools within seconds.
Advantages: Cheap, Powerfull and efficient Disadvantages: A bit fiddly to install
...I upgraded to this Heat sink Fan unit from an Akasa one and the difference in temperatures was great!
With the Akasa model i was peaking on full load at 62 degrees Celsius and with the new ArcticFreezer 7 Pro i am now peaking on full load at 46 degrees Celsius. (My tower also has 3 additional cooling fans as well so i had to point it out.)
The Fan being mounted on the side of the Heat sink is a great idea as heat naturally rises. Also the fins at the bottom of the heat sink direct airflow towards the motherboard components which helps keep them cool.
When this initially arrived in the post i was surprised at the size and weight of it. Its huge!
It was a bit fiddly to install but the fan is detachable to help.
For the price it is brilliant value for money....
