Advantages: Very quiet, great value and a breeze to install Disadvantages: Possibly on the large side for some motherboards
After soldiering on for quite some time with the AMD retail fan that came with my Athlon 64 3000+, I decided that I couldnt put up with the noise anymore - especially since I was going to convert my computer into a Media Center.
Requiring something that was quiet as well as cheap I did some research as went for this and was not dissapointed. In the box came the heatsink/fan, mounting brackets for the motherboard, some thermal grease and two cases ... ...on earth is this going to fit on my motherboard?'. Looking at the capacitors dotted around my CPU I thought there was no chance that this beast wasnt going to foul them, given its montrous size. However this ended up not being an issue as it just about fitted, but be careful if you have a small motherboad where RAM etc is in close proximity to the CPU.
Fitting it was easy - I didnt need the mouting bracket supplied as there was alreday one there. ...

Silencer 64Ultra TC features the low speed 92 mm fan that reduces the noise level to a minimum. The patented fan holder is able to practically eliminate the typical buzzing sound of 92 mm fans. The huge heatsink helps to spread the heat and achieves a high cooling performance at minimum airflow. In the high performance range of coolers, this cooler is counted as featherweight with less than 450 g, it provides avoiding mainboard socket problems. Thanks to the airflow important height of just 47 mm, this cooler can also be used in a low profile PC case. The cooler is to install without any tools within seconds. The ARCTIC ceramic bearing provides unmatched lifetime.
I recently upgraded my CPU to a retail version AMD 64, that comes with the standard cooler and fan. I found it to be very noisy and decided I needed a quieter CPU cooler. After looking at various options, and not having lots to spend, I decided on the... more
I bought this cooler a few months back now so have had a long experiance using it, so far it has amazed me.
My idle temperatures of my CPU went down around 10 degrees from the stock AMD cooler and my temperature at full load went down even more!... more
I bought this cooler the other day on Amazon and it arrived today, thankfully 20 minutes after my new cpu did.
The first thing that struck me was that the fan is positioned to the side of the heatsink rather than on top of it. Thus blowing hot air... more
Here comes the sixth studio album by who many consider as one of, it not the, biggest rock band on the planet at the moment - The Foo Fighters. But how does "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace" fair with it's predecessors?
Released in September 2007... more
