Advantages: Decent size, good price, great for Mew, looks good Disadvantages: None for us

We chose the Blue Pet Carrier - Medium (870/5709) which cost us just £13.97. It weighs 2.3kg so we were advised at Argos to be careful carrying the box that it came in because of the weight! It made me smile as it's going to be even heavier when Mew was in there! LOL!
Anyway we took the box home and unpacked the carrier which consisted ... ...just needed to be clipped together. Hubby did this but it looked easy enough, if a little bit fiddly.
The base of the box is white, the top half is light blue and both of these are made from heavy duty plastic and are thus easy to wipe clean after use.
The door of the carrier fits at the front and is made of metal in vertical and horizontal strips making a nice wide holed mesh arrangement. The metal fastener on the door ... more
For those of you who have enjoyed stories about our cat Mew you're in luck because here he is again! As some of you know he was a stray who adopted us in May of this year and has given us lots of laughs and lots of fun. In turn we have looked after him well, feeding, grooming, worming and keeping the fleas away.
We decided that our next step had to be getting him electronically chipped. We needed to be certain that, if anything ever happened to him when he was out exploring and hunting, we could be contacted. To get this done we made an appointment with the vet and then needed to purchase a pet carrier.

We chose the Blue Pet Carrier - Medium (870/5709) which cost us just £13.97. It weighs 2.3kg so we were advised at Argos to be careful carrying the box that it came in because of the weight! It made me smile as it's going to be even heavier when Mew was in there! LOL!
Anyway we took the box home and unpacked the carrier which consisted of two main pieces plus the metal door and it just needed to be clipped together.
The metal fastener on the door is covered in white plastic and works by squeezing the two sides of the fastener together which in turn releases the catch and the door swings open.
The carrier when assembled is very sturdy and measures 38cm tall by 39cm wide by 59cm long and is suitable for small dogs, cats and small mammals. Since it is a reasonable size it does take up a bit of room when it is not in use but we just put it on the top shelf in Dave's workshop so it is out of the way and doesn't cause any problems.
The top of the carrier has ventilation slits down both sides so that Mew can get lots of air when he is in the carrier and also he can see where he is going too.
On the top of the carrier there is a strong white carrying handle. There is also a small storage area set behind the handle which would cater for a small lead or maybe a few treats. In front of the handle there is a small opening with a clip to keep it shut when it isn't in use. This is great for opening up and reaching in to stroke or tickle Mew when we are travelling - mind you the first time he travelled in it he did manage to get his head and one of his paws out in a daring escape attempt!
So the day came to take Mew to the vets for his chip and we got the carrier out and left it lying on the floor so that Mew could have a good look at it. He wandered round it and went in for a look and seemed to be unperturbed by it.
We had borrowed a small pet carrier from a neighbour when Mew first wanted to move in with us as I wouldn't allow him to join us until the vet had checked him over and I remember that he was fine with it so I had no reason to think that he would be upset by his new mode of transport!
When the time came to get into the car we just picked him up. Popped him into the carrier and shut the door - no problem!
Initially Mew stood up but soon realised that the movement of the car made this difficult so he lay down and was completely settled! He kept looking at Dave, who was driving, and then at me whose lap he was on. Then he would take a look out of the window. He never made a sound all the while he was in the carrier, he was really happy there! Trust me, if he didn't like it, he would have let us know!
I went up to Edinburgh with Dave for a fortnight last December to keep him company as he has a contract up there so Mew had to go to a local cattery. The journey was about 20 minutes in the car and he was again as good as gold in his carrier both on the way there and on the way back.
So for £13.97 we are very impressed and more importantly Mew is happy to travel in his new carrier.
