Advantages: lots of fun in the sand Disadvantages: lid doesnt click on so don't leave it out in the open
...I thought this was a great idea as my son loves to play in the sand and although we live near the sea it can be chilly with the North Sea breeze so to have a sand pit in the garden would be ideal.
We decided to get this one from Argos as it looked sturdy, had an interesting shape and we liked the idea that half could be filled with water for use as a paddling pool. As it was only £12.99 and the sand was £2.49 we thought this to be very reasonable especially he already had a bucket and spade as well as other sand molds. The sand is specially treated and is very fine and easy to use. It doesn't stick to you either so its easy to rub off the little ones hands, knees and whatever else they get it on.
We were right in the fact that our son would like it. He is always asking to play in it. The only problem is that the lid doesn't click...

Advantages: education but chuldren do not know it Disadvantages: maybe difficult to store
...much yet as Sally is moving soon and we are keeping the shells at our house till the move. Adrian has an old washing up bowl for sand and water play in his own garden till then.
When Adrian visited us last week I put some water in the shell for him to play in. we did not sit him in it and use it as a pool we felt it was not warm enough.
I have now bought some play sand for Adrian to play with next time.
Adrian enjoyed splashing the water with his hands and a stick. He poured water from an old margarine tub, I gave him my flour sieve to watch water pour through he had an assortment of different old containers to play with.
Adrian had great fun playing with the water, but what he did not realise was that he was learning he was learning science, he was doing mathematics, his language was been developed. Also he is developing his fine...

Advantages: Drawing without the mess, totally portable Disadvantages: Not many !
...it on holiday several times. It's as thin as a bedsheet so fits in the case easily, it's also very light. Came in handy around the pool for sitting on and for making toddler friends !!
The down side
Ours is looking a bit tatty now, but it's been well used for over 12 months. Mind you we won't hesitate in buying a replacement. The only other down side is the lack of colour. Because of the way the mat works you only get blue lines, circles, squiggles etc. Not the full colour advantages of felt-tips. Having said that it hasn't stopped us getting hours and hours of pleasure from the mat.
The recommendation
Well worth the money. Go for it !! (Can currently buy it for £16.99 at Argos)...
