For Argos I was almost impressed
Advantages fast when you know what you want
Disadvantages not very user friendly if you are browsing
I am having a bad month. I try to do as much as possible on my computer including printing and scanning to make novel christmas cards. We have recetly upgraded our computer and to my absolute horror my old scanner wasn't compatible with the new computer.
I decided that the new scanner I wanted would be one from Argos as there is a good selection in the catalogue. December is not a good time of year to go into our local Argos, in fact I don't think any time of year is good to go to our local Argos, there are always too few staff and those actually working there give the distinct impression that they would rather be anywhere else.
So, once I had chosen the scanner I wanted I decided to try the Argos web site. I was a bit silly initially and tried to find it by going through the descriptive product searches. The actual scanner I wanted was a multipurpose scanner, copier and printer so did not come up when I typed in the word scanner or copier or printer in the search field. The site has not got the capacity to interpret more than a few variations from the actual title of the product and does not seem to want to link to other similar products.
I restarted my search and put in the product number which I had from the catalogue and searched on that. My multipurpose scanner copier and printer came onto the screen almost instantly, the price was very reasonable in comparison with other suppliers of the same product and because the order was over £100 delivery was free. I placed the order over the secure server and was able to choose from various delivery dates. Suprisingly enough as this was a Saturday only 2 weeks before Christmas I was able to choose any delivery day from the Monday onwards. I picked the earliest day possible and the delivery arrive within the time specified. My husband accepted the delivery and when I got home I was very excited about setting up to print and scan with this new toy!! Once I had the box opened and all the instructions out on the floor I discovered the one flaw with the whole process. The usb cable needed to connect my computer to my printer was not included as standard.
It clearly states on the box that this cable is not included so surely the wonderful people at Argos can read this. It would have made my life a great deal easier if the web site or the catalogue had thought to mention this tiny point. A pop-up comment just informing me that the printer cable was not included and would I like to include one as part of my purchase would have made this service ideal. As it was I bought the cable from someone else the next day and was able to print my designer Christmas cards in the end, but I was not impressed with this ommision.
Having purchased products inside the Argos store I know that if batteries are not included they always try to sell them to you I would have thought the website would do similarly. That said, with a product code already to hand, shopping at Argos on line is very simple and very quick and really does save dealing face to face with unhelpful staff. I may even do it again but this time I will research products myself a bit more fully and if I need extras I will order them myself.
Enough of this for anyone who has managed to read down this far. I would only reccomend this site to someone who has the catalogue to hand and cannot face real shopping.
