Advantages: 1,600 spin speed, very quiet, great value, washes and rinses really well, so easy to use, large 6kg wash load. Disadvantages: Some programmes last a bit too long, keeps redistributing the load even when only slightly unbalanced.
...I bought my Ariston A1636 from currys in may 2005 for £269.98 including delivery. It was in a sale, £150 off. So it was originally £419.98 including delivery. When it first came out at currys in 2004 it was £519.98 including delivery so I got it for just over half price. An absolute bargain.
The things that attracted me were it's fast spin, the reports of Ariston being a reliable make and the fact that the A1636 model uses the same Brushless induction motor that the hotpoint super silent models use. On a wash cycle you can't hear it working at all (47 decibels maximum) and on the fastest spin I wouldn't call it super silent, but It is almost certainly quieter than 95% of Washing machines on the market, even though at 1,600 rpm, it is one of the fastest. The only washer that is quieter on the spin cycle is An LG direct drive washer...

Advantages: Good design.Easy to use Disadvantages: Found waste hose to short.
...Just purchased new W/D & well pleased. This is the third Ariston machine we have purchased & if it lasts as well as the last 2 i will be retiring before having to buy another(45yrs old now). The programmes are so easy to use that even i could work it out.Fast 1400 s/speed gets washing nearly dry to touch.Great options available, economy wash, half load, 30degree, etc....plus big 6kg load.....features that were only present on more expensive makes. It is also very very very quiet.
Only downside was that they had moved the waste hose to the opposite side of the machine so that i had to buy an extension kit to hook up to main waste..
We purchased from Currys online who were the best price & gave free delivery on a date chosen by myself, & even rang the day before as promised on the website to give a time slot...

...I'm looking for a new washing machine, and want to compare the energy efficiency of my current machine to new ones on the market. This is how I came to stumble across the review of the Ariston Margherita by Quakerman. I was stunned by what I read.
I can only assume that either Quakerman has been very lucky, or I have been very unlucky in the machines we received.
I bought mine in October 2002. It broke down three times before the standard warranty ran out.
At the end of the warranty period you have the chance to take up a maintenance contract. We normally avoid these & extended warranties like the plague, but give the machine's poor reliably we thought we better had in this case. Now it's 2007 and it's had so many replacement parts in it it's probably a new machine!
I've lost count of the number of call outs we've had...

Our washing machine is, without a doubt, the second hardest working thing in our house (after me, obviously..lol) so when our previous, and somewhat geriatric machine suddenly died on us without warning, a replacement was sought without delay.
