This is the sixth book in the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz.
Horowitz is a prolific writer of both children's books and of other projects. As well as writing the Alex Rider series, he has also worked on another series called The Diamond Brothers series which is hugely popular with younger readers. His TV work includes writing for popular dramas such as Poirot and Midsomer Murders, and he has won awards for the series Foyle's War starring Michael Kitchen. Currently, he is writing a new series called The Power of Five which is a teen book filled with magic and adventure.
Ark Angel is an attractive looking book, as are all the Alex Rider books, and it certainly stands out with it's shiny gold cover and silver insignia on the front. This is accompanied by the author's name in dark gold, the title in white and the phrase "Alex Rider is back - and this time there are no limits" in white at the bottom of the cover. I am always attracted to a book if the cover looks good, which is probably shallow of me. However, I think that if a writer can't be bothered to make sure the cover is right, how good can the book be?

The story begins where the last book (Scorpia) left off. Alex is in hospital after being shot by a sniper. However, the first chapter is not about Alex at all. It is a chapter which follows a man called Max Webber who is speaking at an International Security Conference about the dangers of terrorist group Force Three. Minutes later, he is dead.
Alex has recovered well from his injury, but isn't expecting to do anything more for MI6 anytime soon. That is, until there is a kidnap attempt on the boy who is staying in the room next to Alex. Suddenly, he finds himself plunged into the world of spies, terrorist groups and murder once again.
Alex is faced with unimaginable danger for a teenage boy and must use his wits and ingenuity if he has a hope to survive as he fights against Force Three and billionare Nikolei Drevin and has to save the world once again.
Saying any more would spoil the story, but this is an amazing book which Horowitz has written woderfully, getting the balance in Alex between MI6 agent and teenage boy perfectly. There is enough action and edge of seat moments to keep anyone glued to the page, and the other, sinister characters Horowitz creates grab the attention and imagination of the reader.
