    Advantages Advantages A fantastic career

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None, none, none

When I was 17 I joined the Royal Navy as a Wren. To say I thoroughly enjoyed my time in there would be an understatement. I learned my trade as a Radio Operator and also learned everything I needed to know about being in the Navy, such as how to salute correctly, how to march without doing the ‘dolly walk,’ how to polish my shoes to a high shine by spitting on them – yes, that’s right! – how to wear my uniform with pride and how to recognise different ranks, leading up to the Commander. In the prior to '94' it was different there where enough soldier to go around and promotion came fairly easy and so did the courses. Now due to shortages in personnel it is harder to get out on a course due to the fact that there is an exercise/operation and we just cannot spare personnel to get away on courses such as health and hygiene which is not a promotion affecting course. But if you can get away, there is a wealth of qualifications you ... more
