I bought a Fiat Punto in June 2004 with the aid of a loan. Everyone in the showroom was nice and helpful and found my loan.
When looking at the car I was told it was 16V and my loan would be found over the 36 months I wanted. I got a call to say the loan was approved but was over 42 months not 36 and I had to collect the car on the way home (end of month!), I rushed home on the train to be told I needed utilty bill and driving licence. Drove home and back to the showroom and I noticed that the cover for the towing ring at the front was still missing despite being promised to be replaced. I was told to go back next week for that.
I was given a paper to sign then the keys and a receipt with the log book to follow.
The next week I went back for the cover and was told they couldn't find it could I go back next week. This I did to be told it was in the spray shop and would bed posted (still never received and I got fed up of waiting).
Then my log book came and to my surprise the car is 8v and not 16 which I was told and my son witnessed. I had had the car a few weeks by then and put it down to experience.
About four weeks after purchase I got my copy of the credit agreement. No point reading it as I had the vehicle but I did notice that it was a Consumer Credit Agreement. LOAN COMPANIES BEWARE the rules governing CCA Loans were NOT followed and my agreement is unenforceable! I did think about telling the loan company but I have every intention of paying it and though it might scare them into taking some action against me!
Last week I considered changing my car and phoned the loan company for a settlement figure. I was shocked at the amount quoted so I got out my paperwork and lo and behold I have a loan over 48 months and NOT the 42 I was told.
Lesson learnt by me - read the paperwork!!!
My advice if going to AC don't believe a word they tell you, expect no after care, and double check any loan agreement.
I was caught on the hop in a rush to get the paperwork which they kept telling me had to be at head office for a certain time to get the deal and it all backfired on me. I haved an extra 6 months on my loan and not the car I thought I was buying!!!!
Would I recommend Arnold Clark to anyone - NOT unless you are paying cash!
