We are lucky in this country to have a great thing called 'Bank Holidays'. So what do we all do on these days?
It seems the majority spend their day off work trudging around crowded, stuffy shopping centres.
And yes, you've guessed it this is what l did on May day holiday!!! Along with my husband, daughter, sister and brother in law we all went off to Freeport in Braintree (a designer clothing outlet)
As predicted my hubby and brother-in-law went off to the pub. This left me waiting hours for Linda to finish shopping in about 2 shops (she is very slow) and Chloe getting increasingly bored and annoying.
This waitng was finally rewarded when it was suggested we go to Aroma. This is an all you can eat, self service Chinese buffet restaurant, just over the road from Freeport.
Walking in the first thing you see are the amount of tables....there are loads! These, for me, were a bit too close together and our conversations were no longer private....as we found out when our neighbouring table joined in!!
The decor is quite basic looking but is comfortable and inviting. The toilets are situated upstairs (with disables facilities downstairs) and are very clean, as is the rest
of the restaurant.
The food is found at the back of the restaurant with the hot food being kept in canteen style hot food servers and the cold food in refrigerated display units. This is the part of our meal which reminded me of a school canteen....but this did not put me off at all as l quite enjoyed school dinners!!!
We were seated straight away and promptly asked if we wanted a drink, these arrived within minutes. We were then informed by a friendly chinese waitress that when ready, to go and help ourselves to food.
The menu varies slightly daily with 30 dishes being served at lunchtime and 60 in the evening.
Being the evening when we went, l was faced with having to choose between 60 dishes which all looked delicious The hot plates were constantly being topped up so you were never dissapointed that you hadn't got to try a certain dish.
Each dish is very clearly labelled making it easy to find your favourites. Staff are also always on hand to help you.
The menu is so vast that l couldn't possibly write it all in, but here is an example:
As well as all these self-service dishes there is also a Tepanyaki section where the chef with make certain dishes to order
king prawns *roast pork
squid *chicken breat slices
noodles *beef fillets
When you go and get your food, you take a plate and just fill it up with as much food as you want. There is also no limit to the amount of times you can return to the food and you can literally eat as much as you like. With such a variety there is sure to be something for everyone and to be able to get your money's worth and more.
I found the food to be delicious and personal favourites included Crispy duck, lamb curry, chicken in black bean and spare ribs and we all founds ourselves to be very stuffed by the time we left!
The staff are also very attentive and frequently take dirty plates off the tables and ask if you are ok for drinks.
The prices vary depending on whether you go at lunch time or dinner and also which day of the week it is, but l think whatever time you go it is good value.

I would just have platefuls of crispy duck! Funnily enough my boyfriend was telling me about Aroma the other day, first time I had heard of them but it sounds delicious. x x
