Disadvantages: Slightly larger fuel tank would make this a 100% perfect machine

...almost the same size tanks and 3 - 4 litre reserves and the pan european has a massive 29 litre fuel tank, I just wish Honda had made the VFR tank 25 litres or maybe given a reserve tank of 3 - 4 litres over the std 22 litre tank. Not a complaint though - I'll simply have to move house closer to work as I don't see me falling out of love with this perfect commuting / touring machine for a while yet. So 98 out of 100 for Honda - if it had a couple of extra litres fuel tank capacity it'd be 100 / 100 no problem.... Read review

...wheel, the camchain faults fixed through expensive gear driven cams, a nice looking four into two exhaust, and powerful (for the time) twin pot disc brakes all round. The first time I ever saw one was on BBC TV, in fact the old Grandstand sports program on a Saturday afternoon. Racing legend Ron Haslam was taking part in the old Europe vs. America challenge race series called the Transatlantic Challenge, and his race bike had gone AWOL. The legend has it that Honda unpacked a brand new (dark blue) VFR 750 for him to ride in the race. You could easily spot it on TV, no bright paint job, not even any stickers. He hadn't qualified, and as a consequence he started from the back of the grid. Against full race machinery this standard road bike starting from the back should have had absolutely no chance, no more than someone driving a Ford... Read review

...and immobilizer as evidence of your intention to keep the machine away from the thieves. How grateful I was that my limited budget narrowed-down the choice of bikes (get behind me, irony) and, I was able to dismiss whole categories of bikes as inappropriate - ie cruisers in the Harley mould and trail style bikes. Nought wrong with them, but not for me. The current Mrs Oedipus was all for riding pillion and the option of a European tour was also in our mind so the choice was really between a tourer and a sports-tourer. It took all of about ten minutes (and I'm slow) for me to settle on the Honda Interceptor (known in the UK as the VFR800FI, a much catchier name, you'll agree). If you're scouring for a bike you could do a lot worse than first checking out the motorcyclenews.com site for a review and specs then hot footing off to the newsagents... Read review
