Advantages: some mildly decent action
Disadvantages: un-original, boring, confused, seen it all before

On my 9 week residence in Manhattan last year this film was released with TV spots on regular rotation. None of them inspired me to go and see the film. Fast forward a year and thanks to my cousin's worrying weakness for poor films on dvd I have now had the chance to see it. Wesley Snipes is one of those actors who seems quite good when he's got the material (Blade, One Night Stand)but more often than not he chooses to some very mundane action films (Drop Zone, Demolition Man). The Art of War is another one of these films. I've no doubt that the original intention was to create a clever spy thriller full of twists and turns and perhaps create some kind of franchise with a black alternative to 007. Sadly it fails. Art Attack?

Advantages: Keeps the action going.
Disadvantages: Unoriginal, poor performances.

74. Kickboxer 3: The Art of War (1992) This all feels a little like déjà vu, especially after watching American Ninja 3. Once again there is a fighting tournament in a tropical location. This time Rio De Janeiro. An American kickboxing champion, David Sloan, arrives with his sensei, Xian, in tow. On first sight Xian looked a little like Lee Van Cleef, or maybe that was the spectre of 1984 TV series Master Ninja repeating on me. Review of Kickboxer 3 - The Art Of War (DVD)

Between the Wars - a well-executed concept

Advantages: Great lyrics, really good music, smooth sound
Disadvantages: Youshould really concentrat on the lyrics, familiarity with the inter-war period helps

of 'Three Mules'. The mules in question are the 3 British Prime Ministers, Ramsay MacDonald, Stanley Baldwin and Neville Chamberlain, trying through their policy of appeasement to stave off a repeat of the carnage of the Great War. There is also a very stirring song about the Spanish Civil War, 'Always the Cause'. The collection is complemented by a couple of instrumental tracks. = APPRECIATION = This album was recommended to me by an Al Stewart fanatic, knowing my love of history and appreciation of clever word play. I have not been at all disappointed in this regard, and the highly polished quality of the music has made this a really pleasurable album to listen to.
